There has been talk in my state also to have teachers be evaluated based on
their students test scores. Yes, I think that teachers should be accountable
in some way but to base it solely on the test scores I think is ridiculous.
These children depending on what grade you teach have had several years of
schooling before reaching you. So you are accountable for not only what you
are suppose to teach them but what they should have learned in the previous
grades. Not to mention you don't even have the full year to teach them
considering the test is given at the beginning of March. Then do we take in
to consideration the dynamics of your classroom. How many of the children
are receiving special services, being pulled from your room several times a
day, etc. I think that it really needs to be looked at further before our
jobs are on the line for one test.

It makes as much sense as paying dentists by the amount of tooth decay their
patients have.
The best paying dental jobs would then be those who served patients with
perfect teeth.
My wife used to teach in a junior high that took in a homeless shelter.  The
kids would only be there for a few weeks at a time, but were required to
take the state tests if they were enrolled at that time.
Of course, the results of the tests were published in the newspaper and
those schools that served the neediest students were perceived by many as
doing a less-than-adequate job.
The principal of the school with the highest income (only 12% of students on
free or reduced price lunches) was applauded and seen as an educational
genius.
