Hello, k12.chat.teacher readers!

I am very pleased to announce that Indiana University's School of
Education Distance Education program is offering a brand new course
for Fall 2003! This course is entitled Education W505: Art in the K-12
Classroom, and is our first online course in Art Education.

The instructor, Roberta Reagan, describes the course this way:

In this course, we will view art from a fundamental and theoretical
perspective, asking and answering questions, discovering how our
aesthetic values of art forms and is the voice of culture as a
whole.  As participants, you will discover how the underlying social
structures of culture define art and artists and expand your
understanding of art as a language. You will develop a better
understanding and develop individual interpretations of art, how to
introduce and discuss art in your classrooms and have a greater
understanding of how art can be incorporated into every other
subject.  The purpose of this class is to empower you with knowledge and
skills to discuss art in your classrooms and to use a variety of
resources, including Internet-based technologies, to educate your
students on the value of art in society.
