Hi,

I'm using K9 for a few IMAP accounts. I noted that when a message is
deleted, it is implicitly copied to another folder (e.g. "Trash")
instead of just being marked "Deleted" as normal with IMAP. As a
result, my Trash folder (usually unused, but still there for technical
reasons) populates with deleted messages from my phone that I have to
delete manually when accessing the account via PC the next time.

Can I disable the copying and just have K9 mark the mail as IMAP-
Deleted? If so, I couldn't find the required option. Could you give me
a pointer?

Regards,
AS

If you long-press either the Trash folder in the account's folder list or the account name in the accounts list, you will get a menu that includes "empty trash".

I'm aware of that, but it's a constant nuisance. I never use the Trash
folder, and it shouldn't be populated at all. If I want to undelete a
message, I can clear the IMAP-DELETED status. That's how IMAP is
supposed to work, everything else is leftover from POP times.

Set 'Account settings > Folders > Trash folder' to '-NONE-'.

That stops the copy on delete, but still does not mark the message as
deleted. When I go back to desktop client (thunderbird) I still have
to re-delete all the email I already deleted (which sets the deleted
flag on them).

Wouldn't it make sense for K9 to set the deleted flag on a delete with
NONE in the trash folder?

it will mark it as deleted if you have
"Account settings > Fetching mail > When I delete a message" set to
"Delete from server".

you also might want to set "Expunge deleted messages" to "Only manually"
(what i do because pine filters certain messages marked deleted).

if that's not working, check your thunderbird settings. maybe it's not
syncing flag changes. gmail idle (push) will not notify of flag changes,
other imap implementations may or may not (gmx.com does notify). you
need to periodically pull from gmail to sync flags.

That is what I was missing! Thanks.
