to JVM Languages
Hi all,
I'd like to suggest a meetup at JavaOne for anyone who is interested
in the many different languages on the JVM, and who would be
interested in discussing what a JavaNG/Java3 might look like. This
would be informal - just a sharing of thoughts and ideas.

I'm going to propose the CommunityOne reception 6pm to 7:30pm on
Monday in Hall A as the time to meet - its free to signup to
CommunityOne if you haven't done so.

Since its a big place we'll have to be creative in finding one
another. If its laid out like last year, then I'd suggest the far wall
opposite the entrance as place to gather!

No need to respond to me personally, or to the list, unless you want
to propose a different time/venue :-)

Good plan. As far as I understand it, the RedMonk thing will be at C1
this year too, and last year we had some interesting discussions there.

Cheers

That's a pretty good idea.

And FYI, my Languages talk is going to be 11AM, so feel free to stop by
and say hi. I'll be in and out of other events the rest of the day, but
talking at the reception would be cool.

Hi Stephen,

What a pity, it's almost at the same time as our Groovy / Grails meetup:

I plan to stop by Charlie's talk about JVM implementers tomorrow morning, as well as meet up with others at the reception at 6 PM, as suggested by Stephen Joda.

Frank Wierzbicki and Ted Leung have a panel discussion on Python/Jython at CommunityOne tomorrow from 5:05 to 6 PM  in Moscone North E 134. So this could be a good segue into the reception. There's also a Ruby panel at 1:30 in the same place.

I suppose after the C1 reception, we could then crash the Groovy event if Guillaume doesn't mind ;) (I did sign up on the meetup page, just in case they will let us in.)

Lastly, Tobias Ivarsson and I are going to be talking Friday afternoon at 2:50 PM about how to implement dynamic language features on the JVM, using Jython to motivate the discussion. This will presumably appeal to those hard-core attendees who want maximum value for the dollar, and haven't yet left the building to return home.

This is very good. I will be at the C1 reception at 6:00 and the
Python panel at 5:00.

I'll continue the trend: I have reserved the Fremont Room (courtesy
of the JCP) at the Intercontinental Hotel (5th and Howard, 1 block SW
of Moscone), from 3:00 to 5:00. I'm going to be hanging out there,
if anyone wants to talk Da Vinci Machine in depth.

This is a must-see for a JVM geek like me.

And, I have reserved the same room on Friday (JCP Fremont Room, Intercontinental Hotel) the hour before this panel, in case it makes a convenient meeting venue.  (We'll see how the room works today.)

I scouted the Community One Hall A yesterday, so a little bit more
accurate info - the evening meetup from 6-7:30 will be near exit doors
7 in the corner opposite the entrance :-)
