I would like to request the option for a posted form to have the
user's e-mail address in the From: field rather than
"notifi...@justhumans.com".

This would enable an acknowledgment e-mail to be sent upon receipt.

Thanks for an excellent service!

Hey Gary,

I'd do that but it would break a number of installations. The issue is with SPF, (Sender Policy Framework) a common anti-spam measure employed by a significant percentage of the Internet. Because email can claim to come from anyone, an SPF compliant mailserver will check the SPF record for the domain that the mail is claiming to come from to see if the host that is sending the email is authorized to do so. If JustHumans sent mail "from" whatever someone typed into the form, they eventually would type a domain protected by SPF. (Gmail for example) Because JustHumans isn't on the list of Gmail mailservers, many mail hosts on the Internet would reject the email.

Instead we have opted for the "proper" way to do this which is to add a "Reply-to" header. A good email program (Gmail for example) will default to reply to the "Reply-to" address. Lesser email clients (Outlook for example) may not reply correctly by default. Check the options in your email client if you find that doesn't happen by default.

Sorry about this situation, I know it isn't ideal, but it is better than loosing emails. The only thing it requires is that you, the site owner, sets your email client to reply to the "Reply-to" address.

Best,

-Anders

Are you trying to do auto-responses? If so, there may be a way to get the autoresponder to use the "Reply-to" address instead of the "From" address depending on how that works in your setup. Else you can use the "Repost" capability in JustHumans to have a separate CGI page send the response email for you.

Just a thought.

Thank you for the help and responses. I will give them a try.
Thanks,
Gary
