For several months, during the unfolding events of the Occupy
movement, supporters, media and world observers have been wondering,
'where is this movement heading?' Developing both some signposts and a
compass for that question, we provide the media, activists, academics,
and an engaged public with curated information and insights about the
future of the movement, as it emerges.
The Future of Occupy Collective is an open and expanding group of
individuals from different parts of the world, inspired to bring their
talents to serve the global Occupy movement by stewarding an online
platform that mirrors its best thinking and innovative practices. Our
website and publications bring into focus the news and views related
to the movement’s identity, future and strategy, scattered in various
print and electronic media.
On January 5th, 2012, The Future of Occupy Collective announced the
first issue of its newsletter, dedicated to the Future of Assemblies.
As the movement enters a new phase of its development, many sites are
evicted or facing eviction. Continuing to hold General Assemblies, in
one way or another, seems more important than ever, since they are one
of the movement’s potent life-giving forces. That’s why the first

There’s a section of the website dedicated on Movement Sense-Making,
which says “Collaborative sensing and thinking is a crucial part of
the movement and essential for boosting capabilities to the scale of
transformation it seeks... Our aim is not to produce a uniform
perspective on the future of the movement, but to present the
diversity of existing views.”
George Pór, Director of the School of Commoning and Founding Editor of
The Future of Occupy, said: “For society to overcome its current
crises, there has to be a deeper and broad-based dialogue about social
and economic justice, and creating a truly participatory democracy.”
Then he added, “The purpose and passion of our team is to promote
that dialogue, and to deepen the inquiry and conversation in the
Occupy movement about the ways of transformation into a fair, just and
sustainable world. Our primary contribution to that, our reason for
being, is strengthening the Movement’s capacity for collaborative
sense-making and boosting its collective intelligence."
