Subject: DXCC prospects
I curious to know people's experience of earning DXCC using JT65
only.  I'm in Arizona and have often reached into Asia but it seems
that to stand a chance at DXCC one needs to reach into Europe.   The
only time I see European stations they are being worked by East
coasters with one less hop needed than me,

I realize having an indoor dipole is a handicap but If  spend my beer
money on a 3 ELE would I stand a chance?

Would being able to work 40m greatly increase my prospects?

Anyone in the Western states on this group who worked JT65 DXCC, or
getting close, want to share a few tips?

thanks

Andy,

I'm working on a digital DXCC on 20m.  I happen to be on the East
Coast (West Virigina).  I've never heard an Asian station on the air.
I've seen lots work them.  In the local DX club, it is a big thing to
talk about working a JA.  I would think that it would be possible for
you to DXCC from Arizona without Europe.

Taking a look at entites in just Asia, North America, and South
America I found that there are over 125.  True all of them won't be
running JT65.  Another thing I didn't consider is all of the Oceiantic
enties.  I know there is a DXpedition planned for Swains Island.  You
might be able to reach there and they might (I really am guessing on
this one) be running JT65.

So, keep your head up.  It is do-able.  If you don't get DXCC, make a
contact anyway and have fun with it.

Eric

I'm in Arizona too and I've worked a lot more European entities than
Asian entities. I'm using a 43 ft vertical with 32 radials. I spend
most of my operating time on 30m with 40m probably in second place. I
don't have DXCC yet as I'm just using LOTW and the hard part is
finding "rare" DX ops that also use both it and JT65.

Your antenna is definitely limiting you. Just getting it out side
would be a tremendous help.

Good luck es 73,

Jay  I use lots of jt65 but I cant get LOTW to work for me, I think many
other dx countries suffer the same frustration.
I know many US countries look down on eqsl  , but it works for me it is
secure and its simple to get working.I seem to get more hams responding
I spent 5 days trying to get LOTW going two with an arrl helper on skype
It had him stumped as well
Thats probably why you are having trouble getting conformation.
We don’t get many JA on 30 meters here either But on 15 at the last big
sunspot cycle they where there full on.

Hi Don,

Yes I understand that LOTW has a lot of problems and I'd never fault
anyone for not using it. I'm sure if I werea  more active CW or Phone
op I could have DXCC via LOTW a couple times over by now. I am just
saying that the percentage of LOTW using JT65 ops is pretty low :)

I've got ZL confirmed BTW, so no worries :)

We are not rare DX Jay lol  everyones got us I think.
I think because we play with computers as a hobby,  we are more inclined to
use them to qsl. I hear overall lotw has about 20% rate.
And thats rather sad

Hi Andy - we meet again :)

I had a fiddle with HRD Logger and developed an award called DXCC JT65 -
by modifying one of the other awards.

The results are interesting - see attached screen grab.

I only QSL via LOTW - which the "Qualifies" line represents - 69 total -
and you can see the distribution by band. The worked total is 91 - most
being on 20m of course.

So  2/3rds of my JT65a QSOs are confirmed by LOTW - which is a very good
percentage compared to other modes (overall runs at just under 50% for
ZL2CV/Vk4CMV).

(Don - did you want to try and get LOTW going - I'm up for the challenge,
Skype me on julian.zl2cv)

I suggest using the LoTW page on the K3UK LoTW Sked Web Site. For example, Gabon is on often for LoTW confirmation on JT65-HF.

It helped me fill a few gaps using loTW. Many of the ops there use JT65-HF, and if you ask nicely they will be glad to give you a QSO and confirm via LoTW.

Don't forget to click on RB and PSKR so other operators can see that you are alive and kickin'. Please you're adding to Joe Large's database.
