We just recieved John S. Johnston's 1899 death record from the City
Clerk's office in Niagara Falls, NY. Nothing terribly new, but still of
interest:

Name:  John S. Johnston
Date of Death:  December 17, 1899; 6:00 AM
Age at Death:  60+ Years
Sex:  Male
Employment:  Photographer
Marital Status:  Married
Birthplace:  Unknown
Place of Death:  Niagara Falls, New York
Cause of Death:  Heart Failure
Maiden Name of Mother:  Unknown
Place of Birth:  Unknown
Name of Father:  Unknown
Place of Birth:  Unknown
Local Registration No.:  1769
Physician:  J. H. Miller
Undertaker:  Clark Furniture Co.
Burial:  Vault

Note that this record states his age as "60+ Years" where the New York
Times obituary stated "about sixty years old." Subtle difference, but
maybe a clue that Johnston could have been older than we think?

Does anyone know what local newspapers existed in or near Niagara Falls
in 1899? Are any on microfilm? Perhaps one reported more details
regarding his death...
