Subject: Ten images of 1890s yacht clubs and the 1899 America's Cup races
Hi everyone -

We've added ten new images from the J. S. Johnston yacht photography
collection, including photos of the old Atlantic Yacht Club clubhouses
(in Seagate, Coney Island as well as in Bay Ridge), the Riverside
Yacht Club clubhouse, the Indian Harbor Yacht Club clubhouse, the
Larchmont Yacht Club piazza, and the 1899 America's Cup winner
"Columbia" racing Thomas Lipton's "Shamrock I" as well as Columbia's
demasting.

Does anyone know the story of exactly how Columbia was demasted in
1899?

Do you know the story of the old Atlantic Yacht Club?

Let us know!   The new images can be seen at http://www.jsjohnston.org/browse10.html
.

Enjoy!
Chris

358 Atalanta - This same photo is in an article entitled Atlantic Yacht Club
in the June 1899 issue of the Outing with this caption:
Atalanta, the flagship of Ex-commodore George Gould. - Now in the Service of
the U.S. Navy

It looks like the answer to your third question is Yes.
