From an interview article on popdose.com...

What have been some unexpected blessings from the path your career has
taken since the Asia reunion? What’s next for you musically?

They say every cloud has a silver lining. I had two paths ahead of me:
One was to roll over and give up, and the other was to push myself
further and grow. The first project I did was the prog band GPS. GPS
featured my two Asia buddies, Guthrie Govan and Jay Schellen, plus
Spock’s Beard keyboardist Ryo Okumoto. Our fist album, Window to the
Soul, received a lot of critical acclaim, and we’re planning a new CD
for next year. Next, I was asked to perform as the Parson (formerly
sung by Phil Lynott) in a UK stadium tour of Jeff Wayne’s The War of
the Worlds. It was an incredible experience, with a symphony orchestra
and many of the original singers and musicians from the groundbreaking
album.

Then, I finally finished legal negotiations over the Asia name — hence
the birth of Asia featuring my good self. So far, we’ve toured
successfully in the U.S.; I’m also pleased to announce that we’ve just
finished writing a new Asia featuring John Payne studio CD to be
released on Sony and a yet to be announced, high-profile U.S. label.
The album is going to be called Arcana, bringing back the A to A
titles again. And finally, I’m also working on an incredible project
called Decoding the Lost Symbol, which is a concept album to be
released within the special edition of the Dan Brown companion book.
I’m writing, producing and singing on it, but there are also four very
famous guest vocalists also planned for the album. The book’s author,
Simon Cox, is a genius — he also wrote the bestseller Cracking the Da
Vinci Code. So it’s been very liberating being fully in charge of my
own destiny.

1. Wonderful updates about Arcana, etc. I've come to the conclusion I must
carry on with my life and quit trying to analyze someone elses. All good
things in all good time as a wise man once said.

2. What's the general concensus around here on the "official live boots"
from the early '90's? Does one stand head and shoulders above the rest?
Will my life be complete if I don't own any of them? I'm pretty sure
they're all Aqua era or before. I think I had one back in the day and was
not very impressed. I'm ready to dive in again depending on your thoughts.

3. What is the protocol here in regards to B&P's and trading live shows?
Is it allowed? Does anyone care? Is someone sitting on a killer Arena show
they want to tree/vine? Let me know.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Hello Wayne,
Regarding the official bootleg series, there are 3 of them from the AFJP era, all of them are audience recordings. All of them are fine performances, but with differences in the sound quality: "Live in Osaka" is a fair one from the Aqua Tour, I'd say it's an average audience recording, if you're not a completist, you could skip this one. "Live in Koln" features a mediocre at best sound quality, very saturated, but a jewell if you take into account that's the one and only document out there from the second leg of the Aria tour (Aziz Ibrahim on guitar) There are at least 2 more shows from the first leg of the tour (with Al Pitrelli on guitar), one of those sounds a little better than the Koln one.
The third of the official bootleg series is imho a must. it's probably the best audience recording I've heard, at least from those years. Aqua tour's "Live in Philadelphia" sounds very well balanced, it's not saturated and for moments it sounds almost like a nice soundboard recording.
Unfortunately there was no tour to support Arena, so such jewells like a live version of The Day Before the War simply don't exist (at least according to Dave Gallant's book)
There are several other good recordings from the Aura Tour, both audience and soundboard recordings, I've never heard any Silent Nation show with Chris Slade though, and I'm not certain if there is any of them around.
Cheers

Funny you should ask, Wayne. Just today I got an email from The Artist Shop, an online store owned by Gary Davis in Ohio. The 3 1990's Asia official bootlegs are being repackaged and re-released as Asia "Live" by Infinity Records and at The Artist Shop for $16.99 for a 6-CD set (not individually). No word on extra tracks being included. I bought them all when they first came out and although the sound quality was not perfect, I enjoyed hearing the live versions done by that touring lineup.
