Hi all,

I wanted to let you all know what I am currently up to and what my goals are for the short term as we get all this stuff setup.  I am very excited about the putting together of this group and the changes that are coming to Joomla leadership generally and am very glad to have each and every one of you with us as we start this journey.

My principle goals for the next few months are actually quite simple.  I am charting and building out a path for Joomla in the future.  Simply put I am working on architectural things for the ever ethereal Joomla 2.0.  At this point I am mostly in tinkering mode with various ideas I have had over the course of the last few years and have been studying several other systems to understand their approaches and design decisions.  I don't have a great number of details to share at the moment but will keep everyone posted as progress is made.

The first task I am working towards is reworking sections of the Joomla Framework to be more site/application agnostic and more relevant for non Joomla-CMS types of Web applications.  I am having lots of fun with this so far and hope to have something for people to look at and participate on in the near-term.  This will hopefully take us to a point where we can release the Joomla Framework as a separate project/package than the CMS we all know and love.

Beyond this I am also looking at various architecture options for a 2.0 version of the CMS and am working on lots of ideas on how things might come together for that.  More on that as things progress.

Due to these things I am not going to be substantially involved in the development of 1.x in the future as I focus my energies more on the longer term future.  I think it is important that we have an R&D stream of development happening and that is the area of the project where I intend to hang my hat.

I would love to hear what others are thinking about near and long term goals for production.  Beyond the mailing list we should probably get together on Skype or everyone's messenger of choice and have a chat soon so we can map some things out and shape the next few weeks and months.

Cheers,
Louis
