For clarity, now that this is public, you can read the "nice" version
of one of this persons rants here:
http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-leadership/browse_frm/thread/ea257755b6ff176f/c93ca47b23fe91d4?tvc=1#c93ca47b23fe91d4
Be warned, the material is not for suitable for young viewers or those
easily offended.
There are still 5 other posts from this person we have not made
public. They are far worse than the one linked to above and go further
by threatening physical harm to people. They were posted in the months
following the date of the the post linked to above. It's not our
business, but I personally have been made aware of further racist
material posted from this person on a 3rd party website in the past
few months as well.
I know I speak for the Joomla project when I say we as a project do
not tolerate conduct like this. As a project we can control the people
who have access to official resources, but other communities may still
be tolerant of people who behave badly. Please if you manage an
official resource for us, do not allow this person to participate.
I'll repeat what I posted above:
The Joomla project welcomes people of all genders and race, and will
not tolerate people who push their own agendas contrary to this
standard. THAT is why this persons participation is not allowed. Don't
believe any other reason you may be given.
Ok, moving along.. let's get back to something positive now.

I feel it is important to make sure that it is very clear, that no one
from the CoC, OSM or Leadership is in any way shape or form
responsible for publicly bringing to light this current, sad
situation for our community. I am the person responsible for opening
the door of discussion with my comment on the community blog on
2010-01-03 http://community.joomla.org/blogs/community/1094-joomla-project-code-of-conduct.html#comment-12450
. Unfortunately others are being blamed for my actions and I feel it
is important to clarify the misunderstanding.
I made this comment because I felt I had a responsibility to bring the
situation out in the open for a number of reasons:
* This person was participating on another site in much the
same manner as he has previously been behaving. Their behavior of
abuse had not changed. There was no sense of remorse or reflection of
the repeated and horrendous acts of violence that were perpetrated
against the community a year ago. Also this person had found a
community where there were no boundaries nor moderation and this added
to my concern that the incidents would repeat. (note : this person
was moderated on that site at least one time that I am aware of for a
vicious attack)
* I saw numerous explanations by this person as to that the
reason why they were banned from the project, but none of them were
the actual true and real reason. Rhetoric and outrage perpetuated
over the “victimization” of this person by some of the members of this
site. There were members of that site that were well aware of the
actual reason why this person was banned, but they made a decision to
diffuse and redirect, in effect protecting this person, by not
specifically stating the information they knew was being
misrepresented.
* The level of viciousness in personal attacks against members
of the community had escalated to a point that was deeply troubling at
that site. It was also day by day becoming more and more pointed,
personal and violent.
* I saw that this person was planning to be attending a public
event that involved the community.
That last observation was the key to my decision to bring up the issue
in a public manner, and while I tried to carefully word my comment so
as to not name the person, I was hoping the message would have been
received that there is a danger in dismissing such acts as meaningless
or as non-existent. Hiding and protecting these acts from the
community at large at this time,
I felt was to put people in the community at risk of physical harm.
This person perpetrated horrendous acts of violence against the
community not as a one time “mistake”, but as a systematic and
calculated series of acts over months of time. While both men and
women were targeted by these attacks, there were specific messages
sent to the women of the community that comprised of descriptions of
sexual assault, gang rape, death and murder. A specific woman was
singled out in a number of instances, but the reality is, there was a
specific message sent to all of the women in the project, that was
heinous.
As a member of the community I felt it was important that people had
the information to make an informed decision as to whether to attend
an event that this person would be at, or be in close physical
proximity to this person. I felt it was something I had to do because
I care about this community and the safety of this community.
Unfortunately in doing so, I was so careful of my words in the
comment that I made, because I was fearful of reprisal or retribution,
that I most likely did not make my message clear. I am sorry for
that. I should have just truly spoken up, spoken the truth and
avoided all of the misunderstandings, misrepresentations and
misplacement of blame.
As of today's date this person is still unable to actually realize the
breadth and scope of the harm that was caused. An apology to a select
few, or that is “conditional” is just not good enough. To state that
one is sorry to only some, but not all, and for this person to state
on this very day, that they are still a “victim” is to minimize the
true victims of this violence. The true victims are all of us as a
community.
In addition, to address the reason why there are screen shots kept of
these incidents, it is specifically because of the distinctly
described threats of physical harm that these were taken, and have
been kept. There was a clear and present danger at the time. There
has not and currently is not any reason to think that the situation
regarding clear and present danger has changed. Anyone faced with a
similar situation would be advised to gather documentation in exactly
the same way.
If there are to be any sanctions against anyone for breaching the Code
of Conduct regarding this issue, by making it public, then I should be
the one facing them. I stand by the decision I made to make that
comment, I stand by my decision to post this post, and I am fully
prepared to accept any and all consequences that the Project
Leadership may decide my actions deserve.
