I've been testing this for a while now and I have put the mentioned
caching example to use in one of my view templates. I was hoping to
implement caching on a higher level, like in the model, but this will
do for now:

I'm really eager to get started, so I'll post some more of my

Looking into JCacheCallback, it might seem as if this would be the way
to go in the controller:
1) Create the model object
2) Call JCacheCallbacks get-function, and use the models desired

Hi all,
I'm currently reading up on the APIs and Joomla 1.5 code in general. The
transition to Object Oriented code was a bit of a mouthful considering how
long it has been since I last worked with this kind of code, not to mention
the php4 - php5 differences that one has to look out for.

Hi Johan,
I've been playing with this recently to see what it looks like. The
answer is it looks fine but for one tiny problem with JLoader.
JLoader has phpDoc tags that indicate it is part of the CMS (subpackage
Libraries). But it is a required part of the Framework.

Deprecated libraries :
- libraries/archive/Tar.php
- libraries/bitfolge/feedcreator .php
- libraries/domit/*
- libraries/pcl/*
- libraries/phpinputfilter/*
These are the libraries that are depcrecated. The patTemplate library
isn't deprecated but use is not recommended.

Hi,
Could one of the devs give me a quick list of which of the third-party
libraries included in Joomla! 1.5 are now deprecated.
I have it in mind to create a page on the dev wiki which lists all the
libraries, their status (used or deprecated), links to their homepages
and/or documentation and which J! classes (if any) wrap the libraries.

Hi Chris,
I would suggest to choose option 3 and also exclude the Joomla! CMS.
My reasoning : it's not our goal to fully document the CMS classes
(components, modules, plugins). The extensions also don't contain any
public API's that developers can use in their own extensions. Including
them only creates confusion as to what is part of the actual framework
