Bootstrap Datepicker

I discovered this today. What are everyone's thoughts on implementing this in the JUI to replace the current (IMHO ugly) datepicker?

There was already a proposal on the CMS group for that with a working patch :

There was a problem reported for the support of some languages though.

I would recommend to contact Marc Studer.

I also think that it's something which should be dealt with for joomla
3.1 since the datepicker is 8 years old now and is not maintained
anymore.

I see. What could we do to make it compatible. Because the old has really got to go. Or maybe we should just update what's there to look better using bootstrap markup.

Perhaps a great solution (but not the easiest) would be to fix the
bootstrap datepicker to work with international calendars. That would
be a win-win. Mark

It's an open source project, they take pull requests. Or if they don't want it, we can just use it. So if someone would want to take on integrating calendars of the world it would be excellent.

It would be awesome for it to be someone from Joomla who does that.

While we are on the subject.  One of the things that hardly any date pickers have is the ability to chose time as well.  When choosing a publishing date/time in the future that can be very very useful.  It would be great if that was part of the thought process in moving this forward.

Indeed. And also display the timezone under which the date+time are set to avoid any ambiguity. :-)

I know for sure that basically every Asian language includes a lunar calendar and we also have Farsii, Hebrew and Islamic. It was a really great achievement to get the ability to do this for 1.6 which is why I think none of us want to go backwards.

Of course they must include their own js also. If we can do something to make that even easier that would be awesome. We sadly don't have languages on github at this point so I"m attaching the Thai js files for 3.0 if anyone is interested.  Thanks to Javier it' really easy to experiment with different languages now.

Folks interested to look into this should download the Persian language pack and look carefully at the fa-IR.localise.php and the js files installed in media (files present in the site part of the pack.

I would dearly love to work on a proper multi-language, multi-calendar implementation in Joomla (calendars are a bit of a pet interest of mine), but sadly my workload is not going to permit it.  I would definitely like to encourage a small team to get together to work on it though.
