This is just a heads up for the next few steps in the process of
transitioning from Platform to Framework.

In the next day or so we'll closing this mailing list and making it
read-only. Any questions you have about the new Joomla Framework (using,
fixing, converting to, future vision, changes, etc) can be asked here:

 Hi Folks
I wrote a little cli-app. No Problems so far on localhost (apache on windows), but it won't run on my hosting account (apche on linux).
I figured out, that's because the first if-statement in the contructor of JApplicationCli (wich is inherited from my cli class):
if (!defined('STDOUT') || !defined('STDIN') || !isset($_SERVER['argv']))

This point came from a CMS discussion and I think it is a good one to
consider.
If there are changes to a package that change it's API and result in new
deprecations that are not in the platform, how will that be handled?
Will there be a list? A place to go to track this?
Thanks

Joomla Platform is using JText probably in all of it's packages, but
language files belong to CMS at the moment.

To use it, one has to Install Joomla CMS, than desired language
package and copy some files to application that's running on the
platform.

Besides library language file ($lang.lib_joomla.ini) is not being

Hi all. We have a PLT meeting next week (about 30 hours away).

First, I need to make a report on the Jira status. Can anyone fill me in on
where it's at? It was sort of born out of the idea of helping people work
out what they could do to help out. Is that still a problem or have people
"worked it out"? I'm happy to back up anyone that wants to continue with

There is a bug in the current memcache session handlers where session
handler configuration was changed to use a multi-dimensional array for
future migration to multiple servers, but the register function expects the
data to be in the prior format. I originally submitted a much larger
session change pull request, but then found out much of what I wrote was

I profiled my website, that has SEF enabled, and found out an average 15 % of the time rendering a page was spent inside JRoute::_(). The main reason is that some of the components go all the way via multiple SQL queries just to make the URL pretty.
As I have APC installed, I threw in a 5-minute caching of every URL that passes through the function. It really boosted my page generation time! Will you consider putting a cache mechanism like this in the core?

A few of us have been talking about the future of the Platform and how to
manage it, particular as we are approaching a massive change to
namespacing. In addition, one of the goals this year is to work out
deprecation policies and such. It’s also obvious, looking at the PHP world,
that Composer and Packagist are settling in to stay.

For that reason, I
wanted to pass along an article that gets at the basics. Pimple is roughly
the equivalent of JRegistry, so as you read the article, keep that in mind.

 Hi,
I have been asked to use the JA Wall template on a site that must be monetized with Adsense. I created a Custom HTML with the Adsense script. However, I cannot figure out how to randomly drop in this module in the wall stream? We do not want to use the corner stamp position, but rather intersperse the Adsense into the article tiles. Can this be done, and how?

For us - administrators, it is a major breakthrough, as NuoDB, while being a standard SQL server a lot easier to maintain and support.

You should consider "watching" the Joomla
Platform repository [link] and make
appropriate adjustments to your notification settings.

We've also had the practice of double-posting on the mailing list (that is,

Define and ratify the deprecation strategy for the Platform

 Coming from [link]

We really need to put down in writing our deprecation strategy for the
Platform. We don't following semantic versioning like the CMS so the
current development strategy doesn't really cover what we do in the
platform. However, we need to deal with deprecation consistently.

We have a lot going on at the moment so in parallel with people working on
Jira I've started an adhoc TODO list on the issues list.

[link]

Now, only maintainers can label and assign a milestone so if you want to
add your own you could add an issue and prefix it with "TODO [X.Y]" where

Filesystem package

Are there plans to replace or update the Filesystem package? A while back,
Christophe shared a new package but I guess it didn't get the support it
needed since it wasn't moved into core. I've heard with newer capabilities
in PHP for file services, there are other plans for a package replacement.

 Hi,
as discussed on the CMS list (twitter bootstrap discussion) a less compiler
library provided by the platform may be a good idea. Thread for reference:
[link]
I don't mind if I adapt my plugin or we use a existing solution (I think

LGPL Survey Results

Well, the survey period is over and I've tallied the results:

[link]

We got 113 responses. That number should give us a 5-10% margin of error on
the results (as far as I can tell, yes, we have a statistically
representative sample).

Joomla Namespace Proposal

With 12.3 released and 13.x being worked on, I would like to continue the
namespace conversation; mainly - what the namespace structure will be.
I want to start by saying that I don't think PSR-0 is the way to go for
Joomla, although we can get close to that. What I really want to stay clear
of is the using _ in the class name to indicate a new sub directory. I like
