Hello all, I'm a student and open source developer.

You can find my GSoC proposal over at Melange. I'm suggesting that Joomla add a JGoogle package which supports a number of common Google APIs including Google Maps, Google Analytics, Google Calendar, and a few others. This will be incredibly useful to developers who use the Joomla Platform because it will reduce the amount of effort required to implement the basics, and allow them to focus on other exciting features.

On other important feature of the JGoogle Package I propose is that it includes a generic JGoogleAuth class which will reduce the amount effort required for developers to implement additional Google Data APIs not included in my proposal.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Aaron Schmitz

Hi Aaron:

This is a really exciting and very useful class for developers. I'm excited to read your proposal!

One thing I think that may be useful to add is an example of a few of the APIs in the CMS. There is already a reCaptcha plugin in the CMS, so you could refactor that plugin to use your class, and then set it up to fire on com_contact or com_users (in the registration view). This will be good example code for other developers, and a great way to actually start using the APIs in the CMS.

Absolutely, Chad. I presumably can implement that change in the CMS during the "fudge time" that I left at the end for documentation and unit testing (what's a few more lost hours of sleep?).

Thanks for the feedback,
Aaron
