Subject: Move installer and updater folders to the libraries/cms folder?
Hi everyone. Would it make sense to move the entire installer and
updater folders from the platform (libraries/joomla) to the cms
(libraries/cms) folder?

As I understand it, the existing classes in these folders are tightly
coupled to the CMS and it seems to create unnecessary coordination
difficulties putting cms-specific fixes through the platform bug fix
process.

For example, issues like this one:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEd...

If there are foundation classes that can be abstracted out of this
code, those could be created for the platform in a future version.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Mark

I'm in solid agreement with this approach.  I think it may make sense for
us to have a more generic set of classes for handling packages and
manifests, etc for the platform in the future.  That being said I doubt
very seriously that they'd be anything like what is there now.  You've got
my support.

For anyone interested, the tracker item for moving the installer and
updater libraries to the CMS is at:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEd...

We could use more testers for it, so if you have the time, please give it a
quick test.

Kind regards,
Nick
