Um there will be a ton of cool new things in 3.0:

-New version of platform (with great new developer features)
-Bootstrap, responsive designs
-Redesigned administrative area with Bootstrap (improved usability etc..)

I recommend you read this:
http://community.joomla.org/blogs/community/1594-developers-joomla-3-...

As it has a ton of relevant info in it. You can download the alpha *now* to
test things out:
See the download release:

Subject: Re: Joomla 3.0

Hi,

how are the chances currently to get all the stuff working with jQuery, so
one can remove mootools completely (and is there going to be an option for
this or do we need to hack)?

I want to move to 3.0 with my extension/site (my own site based on only
core joomla and my own extensions), and would like to use the new UI since
i like it very much. But i need most of the stuff working then, for example
the calendar (i would create a custom jform field if needed only for few
elements).

So the question to the ones familiar with the progress:
1. Is jQuery gonna have all the behaviors in 3.0?
2. Will there be an option to remove mootools completely without hacks (ofc
not default)?

Thanks

The calendar doesn't use MooTools.

That's highly unlikely. We only have about one month left.

MooTools is only loaded when its used. Remove the uses and you should be fine.
