Subject: Admin template declined from extensions.joomla.org
Hi guys,

I recently had my template approved as an extension in
extensions.joomla.org under the following URL:

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/administration/admin-navigati...

However, you can see it has now been "unpublished" as it's just
technically a template, however, I argue to the JED team that my
template is an extension, and completely revolutionises how people use
the Joomla! cms. I know JED are just following protocol, but do I
really have to package in some useless module or plugin to make the
template listed as an extension.

I have had amazing reviews, and the short time the template was
published has 6 glowing ratings! I know this isn't a beginner users
admin template, however, it has become very popular with consistent
Joomla users who love the ability to multi-task without 10's of tabs
open.

Partly from my post I am looking for support from people who would
like the template to be listed under the extensions, or indeed not?
and am I the only person who thinks this? Also an official response
from the JED would be nice as they didn't send me an email notifying
of the unpublished status (or reason) they just unpublished from the
site with the reason "template".

Latest version here:
http://www.udjamaflip.com/joomla-jquery-template/59-joomla-admin-temp...

I know this probably isn't entirely the rite place to post this, but
perhaps the extensions lib is missing a category? "Admin templating"?
There is only about 10 in existence after all...

Regards,

Andy

Hi Andy.

The JED doesn't cater for templates so there is nothing we can do
about it here.  Some people in the past have show interest in creating
a "template version" of the JED but so far nothing has come to
fruition.  Discussion on that, or your own template should happen on
the "General" development group, not this one (but please choose
better title next time).

Thanks in advance.

Andrew Eddie

Andy -

There are other Administrator Templates on JED, they have listed these
for about a year now. The best way to handle questions about JED is to
contact that team using their support forum.

Here's a link to that resource http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=262&sid=9926844d9c7fa071176ec...

I'm guessing it was mistaken to be a regular template. As Andrew said,
those are not listed on JED.

There is no template category listed in the JED.  There are admin
modules and components packages that come bundled with a template such
as Adminpraise Lite from from Joomlapraise which is a panel package
including modules, a plugin and a bundled template.

Subject: Re: Admin template declined from extensions.joomla.org

There definitely IS a template category on the JED, it being found here:

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/administration/admin-templates

The problem is that the submission process is flawed. The rules for
submitting admin. templates are unclear as they are not stated anywhere.
There is a consensus that the JED doesn't accept admin templates that only
change look and feel (regardless of the fact that is what a template is
for) yet I can't find that rule written anywhere. How can you develop
according to unwritten rules?

Yet in that category there are admin templates that merely do only that -
no extra functionality provided, just changes to look and feel. If there
are going to be rules then they need to be clear, transparent, correctly
applied, consistently applied and available to developers so that they
don't waste their time developing something the JED will arbitrarily cancel
or delete. Submitting to the JED can be a frustrating process, they don't
even look at your submission if it contains the slightest submission error,
each correction can take days to respond to and in the end they may reject
your submission based on rules that are written nor published. That leads
to frustration and abandonment of the JED, I do not develop for a platform
where my submissions can be rejected out of hand with no appeal nor even a
response from the team.

It would be more appropriate to discuss this on the forum where there is a
dedicated board for the extensions directory

Well I tried that a while ago to little avail. Moreover, this comment
exists, I didn't create it - so this is as good place as any to air some
views - Frankly, I am not expecting them to be listened to by the JED team.
It is nice just to give vent to some small grievances but more importantly
to let people hear this is how it is.
