Just wondering...

Is there a place to go for current version updates on the readiness of Joomla! for PHP 5.4 or is this a version 3.0 addition? It seems some hosts are or will be switching very soon and my life always needs a plan:).

Thanks.

Hi

Except for some Strict Standards warnings, J!2.5.4 works perfectly with
PHP 5.4, but some extensions (namely VM) have some issues.

There's some folks who are testing on PHP 5.4 right now, but I don't think
the major *AMP stacks are including PHP 5.4 yet (I know XAMPP has a beta
with it though last I checked). Overall, it sounds like from those tests
that Joomla! for the most part is working fine on PHP 5.4 but there's a
few E_STRICT notices to deal with. Feel free to report issues you may
notice on PHP 5.4 though as they'll need to be fixed at some point ;-)

Hi Tim,

there is nothing broken with Joomla on PHP 5.4. There are a few smaller issues without notices or strict warning being thrown in PHP 5.4 that didn't happen in 5.3 and we're addressing them as they show up. Despite these issues the CMS is completely useable.

We are short on testers with PHP 5.4 installed to test the patches for the issues that do show up - it would be great if you could jump in there.

Best regards

I use PHP 5.4 on 3 development servers, and nox on 10 production
servers. If I can help fixing Strict Standards issues and more, let me
know :)

The best way to help is to use updated trunk, set
error to development and create a tracker when
anything shows.
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemBrowse&tracker_id=8103
It is also necessary to check the php logs which
may contain more errors than Joomla will display.
Some of the Strict standards issues remaining are
not specifically php 5.4 related.
