Are there any plans to implement admin approval of newly registered users into J1.6 ? Thereby allowing users to register themselves, while still allowing administrators to maintain some level of control over who gets registered.

Hi, Shyam,

I read your introduction and I think this plugin is really fantastic.

But, I did not find the download link or buy link.

How can I download this plugin?

Thanks.

Don't know if this is really the topic here.
What would be good is to propose a patch which implemnets this for 1.6.

PS:
Anyhow, you do not need to login here to get this plugin, which was based on the original by joomaxi and contains a lot of languages. ;)

A feature patch to get this into J1.6 would be very nice. This was
also the original topic.
I have not had a chance to try out that plugin yet, but from the
descriptions it sounds very promising.

I've used Joomlaxi's plugin when it was first released. It had some bugs then that I believe where fixed in the latest releases. At that time I switched to JM's plugin and it works flawlessly since then. A great addition for any Joomla! based site.

I'm happy to review a patch for this feature if someone is prepared to
do the work preparing it.

Hi Shyam

Thanks for the offer to help.

It's probably best to work in a branch if you and a few others want
to. Let me know your JoomlaCode user name and I can organise that.

We are keen to see this feature in 1.6 yes, but we just need someone
to actually do it :) I think the place to start is to quickly discuss
the absolute minimum features that we need to take some pain away and
1.6. Then, once we know what needs to be done the senior developers
can give some guidance on the best way and where to implement it.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the pointers, I will create a JoomlaCode username.
  • I wish to add this in Joomla 1.6
  • So let me describe what is my perception of this functionality.
    1. We should have a global configuration in Joomla (User registration require approval / Auto Approve User)
    2. Whenever a user register we send an email to admin to approve user's registration.
    3. The approval mail will be sent on -
      1. if email verification is required : then after user verifies his email
      2. else, send approval email when user registration request is submitted
    4. We need to store emailVerification status when email verification is required. (so that if some one comes with a activation key, we can identify that is it a admin or the user verifying his email). This information can be stored in user's params
    5. The approval email contains a activation link (the same as we send in email verification)
    6. Once activation is clicked by admin and emailVerified status is set to true, then activate the user.
  • Thats all, probably none of the other functionality will get any impact from this code inclusion.
Please give the feedback on above approach. This is the same approach we use in our plugin.

Thanks
Shyam

Shyam,

I suggest we add in Global Configuration (if Require Approval is
chosen) a choice by drop-down to set which admin(s) will receive the
mails and approve or not.

@Andrew : I am not able to checkout code from : http://joomlacode.org/svn/joomla/development/trunk
Probably I am using the correct URL for Joomla 1.6

@infograf768
That will be little complex (for a simple user), why dont we stick to the simple Rule : superadmin and admins who have Send Emails option set, will get emails.

Thanks
Shyam

You've got access to the branches directory, you can create a copy of
trunk to get started. Have fun!
