Mr Tennant or the Admiral as you like to be known by!!!!!!!!!!

Was a great weekend of sailing beautiful conidtions and fun had by all at the Sir Peter Blake.

Could you please arrange for the Munted Mermaid Trophy to be delivered to the Torbay sailing club after the weekends sailing where Mareatai failed to feild a full team there by forfiting the Munted Mermaid to Team Torbay who feilded a full team.

We would like to have the Trophy by this weekend so that we can enjoy some great refreashing beers on Sunday with our other yacht club members celebrating our victory.

We look forward to a very positive reply and your full co operation in this matter.

Cheers

Team Torbay

Dear Gappy

I can't sp[eak for the Admiral but I understood that to become the challenger of record and to have said challenge ratified by the holders, a period of 13 months notice is required in triplicate and accompanied by rum.  Please show evidence of having completed the correct process in this case.

Dreams are free, unlike the official way to challenge for the coveted MM. If you are serious I understand that as long as all prerequisites are met(see S Newcombes email) you would be able to attempt to lift the trophy at the next nationals in march2012.It will mean that you have to travel over the bridge so maybe you want to get some practice at that and attend our his and her challange dec 18th.male and female two handed.winner gets to by the first round at the bar.heard a rumour that wintewrs has put shirly on  a diet andis going to be using his old mast and two handed sail. thats getting pretty close to cheating.
we could barrange to have the MM on display for you to look at but thats as close as you will be getting to it for now.
Kind regards 103.

Torbay's full team consisted of 2 people / boats, plus 2 teenagers they found walking around with nothing to do that made up a third boat for the first race

OK boys, enough.

For the record the two teenagers are the only people who have ever raced J158. This boat is brand new and is experiencing some building glitches that are in the process of being sorted by their Dad Tony. This combined with challenging conditions for a couple of relatively inexperienced kids meant that the boat could not complete all the races on Saturday and ruled them out for Sunday.

Glad to see lots of healthy competition building up for the summer racing. Better not make that trophy a permanent fixture just yet.

Cheers

Yo Jolly Blokes
As the builder and donor of this esteemed trophy, I will get my 10c
worth in!
I donated and christened this fine work after a lot of banter but no
action from the Maraetai blokes …..who on reflection may have been
dreaming of a team trophy they could hang onto with old style New York
Yacht Club skull duggery!
The intent was to foster some club rivalry…..seems to have done the
trick. The intent was also that it was up for challenge at the Nats
and AK champs, first 3 boats (by placing, not points) from each club.
At the time we had visions of a “Battle of the Tamaki Straights” but
this never quite came together, so I would suggest that with consent
of the defender that for an event worthy enough, the Munted Mermaid
could be put up for grabs and it could be even agreed to alter the
above rules to suit the event outside of the Nats or AK champs.
Any other notions of rules, qualifying criteria or quantities of rum
etc are a desperate attempt to stack the deck.

Minister of Cultural Affairs

Thanks Gordon, I think we'll leave it at that.

We can argue any changes to the rules regarding this highly sort after and beautifully shaped prize at the next Cabinet meeting. Bribes of rum or similar will be taken into consideration of course.

In the mean time, as the "trophy builder and donor", 'your rules' as outlined in your email prevail over any other interpretations.

Cheers
