Immigrant Community Specialist 3 (SG-27)
The New York Department of State is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Immigrant and Community Specialist 3 to serve as the manager of the New York State Office of New Americans staff. The newly established New York State Office for New Americans works with community-based organizations to expand English-for-Speakers-of-Other-Languages, naturalization, and entrepreneurship opportunities; coordinates and re-focuses sister agency operations and policies to better assist immigrants in the New York State, especially in the area of consumer, wage, and tenant protection; and manages a robust media and outreach campaign to ensure that newcomers to the New York State are aware of their rights and of opportunities.
DUTIES:
The Immigrant Community Specialist 3 will function as a staff manager directing the activities of a major statewide program that will affect thousands of immigrants in a highly visible and sensitive program. The primary responsibilities will be to provide day-to-day oversight of the Office’s function; to implement and monitor the office’s programs in conjunction with the efforts of other divisions; and to supervise a highly independent professional staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: overseeing and monitoring program contracts; supporting program development; originating education opportunities and events; coordinating with governmental and community-based organizations to expand the reach of the New York State Office for New Americans programs; helping develop ideas for media campaigns; and working with Department of State intra-agency teams to coordinate services for immigrants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ten years’ experience providing assistance, direction or support to constituents, clients or residents to understand and participate in publicly supported social assistance or legal aid programs. Experience must include or be supplemented by four years of full-time program managerial experience. Experience in a caretaker or group supervisory role will be deemed non-qualifying. A bachelor’s degree in a human services, social services, management, administration, or closely related subject area may be substituted for up to four years of the non-managerial experience. A Master’s degree may be substituted for an additional year of the non-managerial experience.
STARTING SALARY: $74,190
