Don't forget to backup before trying this experimental utility!
Also, as recently noted on the web page, please install icalendar gem
0.97 rather than 0.98.

I am at a total loss as to how to install jruby (couldn't seem to find
basic help in the documentation - it seems it's mostly for
programmers and not us common folk). I have downloaded it and
extracted it to /usr/bin/jruby. But I have no idea which variables
need to be set in order to get to the next step of running gem install

Good to hear!
I knew about the deletion issue, but figured it was livable for a first
release. It should be fixed in the next release.
When I have some more time this quarter, I'll try to support more GCal
event metadata.

known alpha issues

FYI, here are the known issues that have yet to be addressed in the
first release:
- Deleting an event from GCal xor iCal does not delete the event on the
other *Cal -- jin'sync re-imports
- Recurring events are not yet supported (nil method missing exception)
- Changing the length of an event in iCal does not change the length of

yes it synchs ical and gcalendar bidirectionally!!!
There are some issues though. If you delete an event in ical, then it
tries to import it again from google instead of also deleting it in
google. And if you edit some properties in gcalendar it doesn't reflect
them in ical.

This is a known
JRuby issue -- rdoc generation is CPU intensive and runs slowly.

Hi,
my problem is not only related to jinsync but I ask here hoping that
someone has an hint on how to proceed :-)
- Installed jruby in /usr/local/jruby
- java is working (1.5)
- the environment variables are set
- I try
$ gem install icalendar
and I get:

Looks like you're doing a great job with this. You must give some
competition to things like Spanning Sync and so forth... Make is as
open source as possible it will pay off in the end!

JRuby just got OpenSSL support, I think, so it might have to do with
that.
Perhaps JRuby 0.92 is required after all?

Hey Jin,
this error has most probably nothing to do with your script, just in case
you know a workover...
see attached "log".
