I read an article yesterday from the Columbus Dispatch, regarding Gholston being drafted by the Jets. I plucked this out from the end of the article:
"OSU defensive coordinator Jim Heacock heard some of those pre-draft criticisms, too, such as Gholston supposedly taking some plays off and not being strong against the run.
'He had 14 sacks, a school record, and we've had some pretty good defensive linemen go through Ohio State,' Heacock said. 'That tells me he was going pretty hard most of the time. I also heard that he wasn't a very good run defender, but in my opinion, that was his strength.'
'He played awfully hard. He prepared hard, studied film hard, and led hard. Everything he did was with a purpose. I don't think you do the things he did for our defense and take plays off. No, in my opinion the Jets got a great person, a hard worker, and one heck of a football player who's only going to get better.'"

This is my favorite draft story (beating out the Bengals drafting more players of questionable character and the Browns drafting Martin "Mother" Rucker, who might have the best nickname ever)...keep in mind that according to the Wonderlic ratings a score of 10 indicates literacy:
Comments from league insiders continue to flow into PFT headquarters regarding the disclosure that Michigan receiver Mario Manningham (who might not even be able to spell his name correctly on a consistent basis) scored a six in the Wonderlic.
A league source has further confirmed that Mario did indeed score a six, saying that the score is "real and deserved."
Per the source, Manningham showed low intelligence in some of histeam visits, which will not help him reverse a steep slide of what oncewas believed to be a round-one draft stock.
But there's no denying that Manningham is a phenomenal athlete. Even if he might ultimately need to have the ten letters in his lastname tattooed on his fingers and thumbs. Plan your next roadtrip with MapQuest.com: America's #1 Mapping Site.

Comments from league insiders continue to flow into PFT headquarters regarding the disclosure that Michigan receiver Mario Manningham <http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/04/26/manninghams-wonderlic-score-r eal-and-deserved/> (who might not even be able to spell his name correctly on a consistent basis) scored a six in the Wonderlic.
A league source has further confirmed that Mario did indeed score a six, saying that the score is "real and deserved."
Per the source, Manningham showed low intelligence in some of his team visits, which will not help him reverse a steep slide of what once was believed to be a round-one draft stock.
But there's no denying that Manningham is a phenomenal athlete. Even if he might ultimately need to have the ten letters in his last name tattooed on his fingers and thumbs.
Is he going to have to pull a Ewing and sign his contract with a X mark?
Then again, as hall of fame inductee Ewing showed, you don't need to be smart to play pro sports. Of all the useless draft/combine info, the wonderlic has gotta be the most irrelevant.
