The DesMoines Register is reporting that the Jets have signed Bryan Mattison
(6-3, 272 lbs), DE from Iowa where he was a three year starter. Mattison was
a late round projection and his father is a coach who looks like works for
the Ravens. Mattison was a team captain … All-Big Ten Conference
second-team … Academic All-Big Ten choice… played exclusive as a senior as
a LDE and ranked second with four forced fumbles. He was in on 61 tackles
(27 solos) and became the fourth Hawkeye to lead the team in sacks in
back-to-back seasons, collecting nine for minus 54 yards, also had 11.5
stops for losses of 60 yards and three quarterback pressures. Mattison
played at the East West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl. At the Senior Bowl
he stood in for Kentwan Balmer and was blown off the ball at Defensive
Tackle.
The Jets have signed another Running Back. Jehuu Caulcrick (6′0″ 255 lbs)
was formerly a Michigan State Spartan RB, who was used in goal line
situations for the team, totalling 21 touchdowns in his senior campaign.
He’s the fullback type, and he’s the thumper style player that Mangini
likes. All the same, with Tony Richardson in place, Caulcrick might be
someone who the Jets will use this summer.
Nate Lyles, former Safety for the Virginia Cavs is heading to New York for a
workout Thursday with the team. Lyles is a 6′0″ 200 pound player who will
likely be someone the Jets could use this summer for camp.
