What is significant about the communication between God and man is
that God speaks through the three witness. "Abraham looked up and saw
three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the
entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground."
Genesis 18:2 (NIV) From these three witness we learn about the birth
of Isaac, and these three witnesses inform us of the plan of God for
our lives.
Scripture says the following regarding the three witnesses being
contained within the ark of the covenant. "Behind the second curtain
was a room called the Most Holy Place, which had the golden altar of
incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained
the gold jar of manna, Aaron's staff that had budded, and the stone
tablets of the covenant. Above the ark were the cherubim of the
Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these
things in detail now." Hebrews 9:3-5 (NIV) The Law bares witness to
the Father, the manna bares witness to the son, and the staff that had
budded even though it had been cut off bares witness to the Holy
Ghost.
Just to see the three witness interacting in the sacrifice of the Lamb
of God in place of Isaac the following is said. "Abraham took the
wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he
himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on
together" Genesis 22:6 (NIV) The fire in this cause bares witness to
the Holy Ghost, the knife bares witness to the Father, and the wood
bares witness to Christ.
Christ is the manna that comes down from heaven that brings eternal
life John 6:48-50, God the Father is the knife that prunes Christ the
vine by way of the law John 15:1, and the Holy Ghost is the burning
bush and the staff that bares the fruit of the spirit even though it
has been cut off Galatians 5:22-25. Isaac took the wood of that
cross, but it was the lamb of God that got sacrificed in his place and
gave blood atoned for the sins of many. Overall, the three witnesses
shown prior to the birth of Christ, shown prior to the birth of Isaac,
shown in the sacrifice of the lamb in place of Isaac, and shown in the
ark of the covenant bare witness to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost as
one God.
