to Jesus On the Web
Hello,

Consider the following verse, "Jesus did many other things as well.
If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole
world would not have room for the books that would be written." John
21:25 (NIV) The term books in this verse is the term Biblia
(Biblia). We know from making itself obvious that Biblia is the word
that the term Bible comes from. Overall, if everything that Jesus did
had been written, then their would not be room enough in the entire
world for all the bibles (this is not multiple copies of the same
book).

You might ask why people hold the Holy Bible above all other Biblia.
The answer to this is that the Holy Bible is set apart from all other
books by men because it contains the actual first hand accounts of God
as he has shown himself and his work to people. The Holy Bible is
thus not a God as many would believe, and thus it could never in that
respect save you unless you had it in your shirt pocket and a bullet
was short into your bible and thus saved you while you had been
evangelizing people in the slums (this would only be temporal
salvation).

Consider the following, "What advantage, then, is there in being a
Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? Much in every way!
First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God."
Romans 3:1-2 (NIV) Notice that Saint Paul uses the term ‘they’ to
talk about the Jews instead of ‘we’, so instead of Saint Paul saying
that ‘we have been entrusted with the very words of God he says
they’. We know that Saint Paul was a Jew, but I find the reason why
he makes a distinction between ‘we’ and ‘they’ is because if he said
that he was entrusted with the very words of God along with all the
Jews then people might eventually take his letters to be on par with
letters that Jews (whom do not believe in Christ) would also make.
Instead Saint Paul tells people what the lord has shown him as he
explains in his letters, but he does not hold this to be on par with
what the Jews have because they ‘have been entrusted with the very
words of God’. Overall, you can thus see that the Hebrew scripture is
the very words of God and is God breathed, whereas what Saint Paul
speaks about is what God has shown him to share with others regarding
the scripture and regarding the Word of God.

Consider yet another set of verses, "In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in
the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing
was made that has been made." John 1:1-3 (NIV) This word of God is
not the scripture as some would believe, but instead it is Jesus
Christ whom the scripture is written about. The term ‘word’ in this
context is logos (logos), and this means that he is the inner thought
of God made known. Jesus is thus is the Word of God and we see this
especially because through him Peter was the first to have communion
with the father among the twelve as he confessed Jesus to be the
Christ, and Jesus said, "blessed are you … because these things have
not been revealed to you by man but by my Father in heaven."

My point in all of this is that we should not believe a liberal
doctrine that would teach us that the Word of God is the bible and
that we need to cut ourselves off from everything including every book
or written work that has been made in order to give alms to the
scripture. In fact like the Jews whom did not believe in Christ it is
possible to know the entire scripture from five thousands years of
study like perhaps Satan has without ever being saved, and we even
know from the twelve that we could be with the lord in person
following him around for years without ever knowing him. Overall, my
point is that the scripture is one thing, but the Word of God is
another thing and the scripture is written about the Word of God so
that we (whom are being saved) might know him.

Thank you,

Mathew Enoch Mount
