Listen up Gang!
I am organizing a concert for industrial hemp as part of the National Hemp History Week observance sponsored by Vote Hemp and The Hemp Industries Assoc. This day-long event will be held at the Rotary Pavilion at Hart Park (68th and State St) in Wauwatosa on Sunday, June 10th from noon to 6:00 p.m. I have great bands booked. The National Hemp History Week organizers are supporting me with hemp samples. I'll be talking about the healthy benefits of hemp as fuel, food, and fiber between songs and sets from the stage.
“Hemp was once an important crop for George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and thousands of American farmers across the country, including farmers here in Wisconsin until it was outlawed completely in 1970 by the Controlled Substances Act. Hemp History Week will help residents of Milwaukee learn about our rich hemp heritage as well as the tremendous environmental and economic benefits that would come with growing hemp in America once again.
A primary objective of Hemp History Week is to advocate for a federal policy change while sending a strong, positive message to President Barack Obama and Congress to end the ban on hemp farming and let farmers grow the versatile and profitable crop. In 2010 and 2011, the campaign generated thousands of postcards and online petition signatures to the President and Congress. Representatives Ron Paul (R-Texas), Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon) and many other members of Congress support legislation in favor of a federal policy change. A companion Senate bill is expected to be introduced later this year.
