I think I've finally decided what I want. I'm probably going with the Cannondale CAAD8 6 (tiagra). The store I went to today will have to order it as they don't have my size in stock (48 cm). Any last minute advice before I buy?

Other bikes in that price range I should consider? Places to get a good deal? Etc.

What are they charging you for it?  Is it a 2013 model or a leftover 2012?  If its a 2012 call every shop around until you find one that has it in stock, they will take a couple hundred bucks off of the price to move it off of the floor; especially in October/November.  If its a 2013 its really hard to get a good price on it especially on a special order.  Any dealer has to pay $30-50 bucks just to get a single bike shipped to the shop.  You can't really negotiate on the price of the bike but it isn't unreasonable to ask for more of a discount on any accessories you buy because the margins or profits are higher on those.

The new Tiagra is really nice and is up to par with the 105 group.  10 speed and STI shifters.. you will be really happy with it.  Cannondale is a great brand, I would just suggest test riding a comparable model in a few brands; Trek, Giant, etc.  You get the most bang for your buck with a Giant, but I test drove one and it just hurt.. I hated it, but there are a lot of people that swear by them.

Hope that helps..

Thanks!!!  It's a 2013. They didn't have any more 2012s and I can't find anyone who does.  They are charging me $1150 which seems like a decent pri

I also found 2 other deals i'm now considering.  A 2012 rental Giant defy 2 comp (carbon frame) with SRAM apex for $1250 and a 2012 brand new cannondale synapse with 105s for $1150.  I rode the giant and liked it but not blown away.  They are going to build the synapse so I can test drive it this week.

I would take the leftover synapse with the 105.. The models really don't change much from year to year..  Cannondale's website will let you compare two bikes from different years side by side.  Give that a shot but that sounds like the better value to me.

I'm really good friends with a giant dealer if you decide to go that route..  Trek too for that matter.
