Hi guys:

I am going to attend the mv.net webinar this week, but in the meantime I have pulled out my vb.net 2003 and have created a couple of forms.

What is the product I need to add the extended variables to vb to allow me to access my jbase files.  I did this once for one form many years ago but have forgotten the name of the product.  I know this is a lot of work but it makes for a more economical producct for my end users.

You can either use jRCS for "raw" access to the data or mv.net which gives you much better data integration within the dotnet environment.

Starting from scratch as you are, I would recommend mv.net.

Thanks Simon.   I don't remember any licensing in the past, but probably due to the fact that I only ever tried it for a single user and ran in demo mode.

Both jrcs and mv.net are cost add-on's for jBASE.

mv.net is the more expensive, but should save you a lot of your development time.

Hi Simon, do you have any document on how mv.net access via jBase?

Now I want to develop reporting system that is separate from T24
system.

You need to speak to jBASE on this one - I've never used mv.net itself -
I wrote my own library that pre-dates mv.net.

I believe it provides a add-in to vb.net that exposes all the
functionality. It includes a dotnet data provider and an interface for
reporting services.

Not sure this helps much.

Simon

mv.NET is available through Bluefinity (www.Bluefinity.com).  It supports many of the MultiValue database vendors.  The connection depends on the vendor but in the case of jBASE it makes a telnet connection.  Bluefinity is owned by MPower1, the save as jBASE (the marketing/support company as opposed to Temenos).  It is licensed by developer and per each connection to the database.  However, since it supports connection pooling this is not a one-to-one relationship to users.

mv.NET is sold through resellers in the U.S.  I can't speak for other parts of the world.

[ad] In addition to selling and supporting mv.NET, my company provides custom development services.  Most of the interfaces I describe in my blog have been implemented with mv.NET, including telephony (in/out-bound voice/SMS), web services, and interfaces with Microsoft Office apps.  All of these things can be interfaced with T24

When people say the interface is with telnet, that includes SSH.  jRemote can also be used.  mv.NET is a super-set of that communications pipe, including a lot of great functionality not found anywhere else in this industry.

If you are looking for mv.NET licenses for your own development, yes, contact BlueFinity directly.  I'm happy to sell licenses as well, but that's not the main Nebula R&D focus.  If you are also looking for development services, and new interfaces with your systems, I welcome you to contact me.  Depending on your needs I may even refer you back to BlueFinity, our respected partners.

To answer the specific question about how mv.NET accesses the database, you are welcome to visit our website for a video showing mv.NET installation and configuration, and another which shows the creation of a ..NET web service using mv.NET to interface with the DBMS.  Because the installation is complex, as part of our value-add, Nebula R&D installs and configures the environment for you, so that you can move forward quickly with your evaluation and development.

This tool extracts data in tabular format and you can simply upload to a RDBMS.

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like mv.net and other solutions but there's no limitations on concurrency usage and relatively inexpensive for an enterprise.

Why not just use the jBASE SQLSELECT command?
