Is Viral Video Success A Myth?
...is it possible that what we think of as viral isn't actually viral after all? A number of recent articles and presentations propose that these videos were given a big corporate helping hand first before getting any kind of traction.....The gist of both articles is that what we believe and what's reality are frequently two different things when it comes to social media. It's becoming easier to manipulate many of the metrics that we use to measure success, if you have the money.

I guess we are now dealing w " The New Pay To Play Model " made just for the internet .
for many ,
I suppose the temptation to boost the numbers is a necessity and it must be nice to be seen , heard , and gulp , be "loved" by the masses...lol
Yes, there is nothing in this world like some "Real" street credibility ....huh ? LOL
in my case , if I put out a video , I don't expect much , yet I do hope that somebody gets something out of it .
I can say for the time being that I don't get a whole lot of listens on my videos , yet I do know that the numbers that I do get are real close and in the ball park .....
in the past ,
I've been approached via e mail by spammers that offer thousands of listens for a small fee
for me it was a no go ,
How dare they ask me to pay a monthly fee to give up my unpaid position as a beta tester for the Romulan U Tube Video cloaking device.....
nice chatting w you .....all the best ,
Kenny
I subscribe to just 3 jazz guitarists you tube videos. I have looked at other videos that have millions of views. They seem to be slick productions that reek of corporate funding. Ever notice, too, that the million hit videos have big name products advertised in the page?
I agree with Akmbirch: Viral videos are mostly plants by well funded corporations.

My favorite You tube jazz guitarist recently is Matt Otten. He's got 210 videos as of today.
