I've often heard about Clapton putting distilled witch hazel on his
fingertips, presumably to repair skin damage?

Doesn't the rubbing alcohol in these preparations dry your skin
out, which probably leads to cracking?

Does anybody know if something like distilled witch hazel is the
thing to put on after a long day of playing, or is moisturizing the
way to go?

thanks
Chris

From Wikipedia:
It's mainly used externally on sores, bruises, and swelling. Witch hazel hydrosolis used in skin care. It is a strong anti-oxidant and astringent, which makes it very useful in fighting acne.[9] It is often used as a natural remedy for psoriasis, eczema, aftershave applications, ingrown nails, to prevent sweating of the face, cracked or blistered skin, for treating insect bites, poison ivy, and as a treatment for varicose veinsand hemorrhoids.[10] It is found in numerous over-the-counter hemorrhoid preparations.[11] It is recommended to women to reduce swelling and soothe wounds resulting from childbirth.[12

For me Aveeno hand lotion is preferable.

Regarding finger tip care - I certainly am not an expert but I have
heard that applying rubbing alcohol to the fingertips will tend to draw
moisture and oils from the skin somewhat and toughen it up ... I have
also heard that applying moisturizer will help to keep callused skin
supple and prevent it from drying out. Perhaps both products can be
useful depending on the state of your finger tips.

Cool questions. I'm looking forward to see other responses.
