[jazz_guitar] T. I. strings

Anyone ever use Tomastik Infeld strings in the lighter gages? I'm
thinking of the Blues Sliders or the Power Brights. These both have
unwound thirds in the 9's and 10's. The blues sliders have enhanced
overtones "for that vintage sound" sounds like vintage hype but I
haven't knowingly heard them. I have a pretty bad attitude about
marketing in general. Does anyone know if these strings feel lighter
than the gage numbers indicate like the Jazz Bebops? I like those
real well. Got some thirteens on my main archtop. I just checked
again and there 11s in the power bright sets. Has anyone used these
on a general gigging guitar? The might be just the thing for a
humbucker guitar.

If the `playing lighter than the gage numbers' part is true, I was
hoping to find a set of 11s in the blues sliders. But haven't seen 11
at Juststrings or Stringsbymail. Anyone know if they are out there? I
have a Les Paul clone on the way and thought they might be good on
it. It's a chinese knockoff with Hagstrom's name on it. It's solid
mahogany [with a cutzy maple top on it] body and neck and weighs
alot. I'm hoping that and the Seymour Duncan's will get me in the
neighborhood of the fat humbucker rock sound. There is a ton of these
on ebay. The heavy ones with the Seymour Duncan's are Swede Select,
but there are some others, Swede and Ultra Swede that look pretty
interesting too with active electronics that require batteries. The
fat ones are from a brick and mortar store in Md. and they play and
set them up before shipping [which is free] at a price of 485.00. A
trusted long time friend at W.L.A. Music has one and says they play
and sound like the real deal. I guess my milage could vary. Anyway

Every set of TI's I've used, including the Blues Sliders, the flatwound jazz
sets, and their exquisite Plectrum acoustic strings, have been superlative.
I really can't tell the difference between much of the US made
strings...perhaps because (so I've heard) all the big makers (GHS,
D'Addario, etc) all have their strings made at the same factory, by the same
people, etc.

I'm sure the TI's will do you right, Ron. They sure hurt in the pocketbook,
tho.

Thanks for the input Blake. Only because strings tend to last a long
time on my guitars, this shouldn't be too much of an issue. That said
I usually get all my strings at two for one prices, usually about 6
bux a set so in that sense these are steep. I've only tried the round
wound bebop 13s and like them real well. Do you know if the string
tension thing applies on the Brites? I forget the correct name but
they are supposedly for rock. They might do better on a plank with
humbuckers.

All U.S. made strings are not the same although some may be and some may be very close in design. I know I've have used some light gauge rock-n-roll strings that I couldn't tell from some others I have used but in the last ten years I have used the same strings on all of my guitars and for that reason I am no longer familiar with what is what. I use to know this stuff about who built what cold but not so today and it may have changed since the last time I was aware of what was happening with string manufacturing so I won't go into too much detail but I think D'Addario Strings are made by D'Addario exclusively. D'Addario strings have enough unique engineering and construction differences that their strings would require unique machines to build them anyway. The Hex-Core and the ground wound style strings are just two examples. GHS or their parent company I think is the primary manufacturer for several brands but each brand has it's own design and metallurgic formulas. Labella strings I am sure are still built by them.
