I'm looking forward to jamming for the first time with a guy who plays a Hammond organ. Any tips or issues particular to the interaction between the organ and guitar? I assume he'll be playing bass lines with his pedals or left hand so I should lay off the lower strings. What about tone? He'll have all that sustain and vibrato going on -- what works best with that? Maybe a clean tone without much reverb to contrast with his? How do you keep from getting overwhelmed by all the sound coming out of the organ?

I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences.

I think it's a Hammond on the A-Go-Go album of Scofield isn't it? That sound is too cool!!! One of my favorite albums!

Bring a loud amp. Seriously!

Play with the tone that best reflects you, but put your amp up on a
chair and angled upwards so the sound will carry without building up
waves in the bass end. And listen to some Jimmy Smith, or some Larry
Goldings with Peter Bernstein. You'll want to comp in "big band"
style phrases behind his soloing. Good luck, it will be great fun if
your concepts agree.

I totally agree with that statement.  When I played with a jazz group where the organist used two Leslie speakers, my sixty watt amp was in constant overdrive just to be heard.

Good idea Kenny Burrell got it pretty right. Larry Goldings is one of
my heros. I first got to like him on Madeliene Peyroux's Careless
Love project. He really helped take that CD to a higher level of cool
for my ears.

Hello,

I am looking for a replacement pickup for a 2001 Gibson Chet Atkins CE (Classical electric). The original was a Shadow Electronics SH-079P, apparently no longer in production, but any equivalent would be fine. Bear in mind that this pickup has an output for each string rather than a single output for all six, so the current Shadow SH-076P is not a good replacement.

Thanks,

Brad Little
