I have a solo gig coming up, playing a Paris France-themed event at
a Golf Club. I'm trying to come up with songs related, however
loosely, to Paris. So far I have:
Afternoon in Paris
April in Paris
Michelle (Beatles, so folks recognize at least one)
parisian Thoroughfare (fast Clifford Brown tune)

Any other obvious ones?

thanks much,
Chris

Hi Chris,

How about:

I Love Paris
La Vie En Rose....You'll recognize this Edith Piaf standard...it's in
Real Books
Je Non Regrets (No Regrets) another very famous Piaf song
They all sound great instrumentally.

I'm sure you can find these on You Tube as well. Hey, why not rent the
dvd Piaf while you're at it. It's fantastic and the actress won the
academy award. You will feel like you are in Paris.

When they were opening the Paris Hotel Casino here in Vegas, Raj and I
learned these tunes in French which was a feat. We were working toward
an audition for their lounge.

Have fun :-)

Hi,

how about Last Time I Saw Paris? Or if you want real French tunes, there's the gorgeous waltz whose original title is "Sous Le Ciel De Paris", there's a nice version of it on Toots Thielemans' "Chez Toots" album. I don't know how well it's known in US but over here everybody knows it - not just musicians.

Best wishes,

Petri

Hi Chris,
Some of this songs may not work without vocals but her I go:
"I Love Paris"? Just know the Sinatra version. Not sure who is the aouthor though.
"In France they Kiss On Main Street" by Joni Mitchell?
How about Parissienne Walkaways by Gary Moore?
Maybe "To France" by Mike Oldfield
And if they have sense of humor "Down in France" by Zappa. No, maybe a golf club is not the place for Zappa...

Regards

A little fast as a solo guitar piece, but I could quickly lay the
chords down into my looping pedal and take a couple choruses over
top...
Interesting, I thought or maybe just heard and believed that to be
a Clifford Brown tune.
thanks,
Chris

Don't know how well it would fit guitar, but how about Bud Powell's "Parisian Thoroughfare?"

That's a great list guys, both the suggestions made on and off of
the group will be really helpful!

I have more than enough to research and start shedding. :)

You guys are the best!

I think a song that could be given a jazz feel with a walking bass line would be La Mer written by Charles Trenet. Bobby Darin sung it in English and turned it into a hit tune in the U.S. called Beyond The Sea. But it was a big hit in France before the Darin version and I believe that Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller did instrumental big band versions of it as well in the old days.
