[jazz_guitar] Suggestions for how to buy a guitar

Hi guys,
I'm mostly a lurker, have enjoyed the knowledge and tone of the discussion here.
As a beginning player, I have some questions about guitars that maybe someone would care to help with.
Currently I have two inexpensive guitars, a Strat clone and a semi-hollow body. Neither is horrible, but I can't help wondering what it would be like to play a better guitar.

Couldn't agree more, Jeff. I saw him about a couple of years ago in Savannah, GA. He's really got it all...and a very nice guy. Told me all about his (well worn) Benedetto.

Frank & group were at the Ark in Ann Arbor last Thursday. I was at the show and would echo Jeff's comments: Frank Vignola is one phenomenal player. His ability to execute clean notes at breakneck speed is impressive and that turn's peoples' heads. But what I love most is his strong sense of melody and the melodic lines he weaves into his improvised solos.

Although Frank is currently playing Gypsy style jazz, he has some earlier
recordings in a much more contemporary/smooth jazz vein as well. I am
sure he can play many styles well. He is a great player.

Glad he's doing well Juan, the kidney is one organ where redundancy is
important, and I know of folks who've lived with just one, a long
"normal" life. I put "normal" in quotes because one I know is a
musician, and we all know how "normal" our lives are. ;) Still, we
all feel a big scare when something like that happens to a family

Jeff Clyne who died on November 16 aged 72, had a reputation among British jazz musicians as the country's finest all-round bass player.

Along with a fine technique, incisive tone and unshakeable rhythmic sense, Clyne commanded a unique range of styles, from swing and even cabaret accompaniment at one extreme, to the avant garde at the other. In later life he discovered a gift for teaching and instructed many of today's young professionals.

flower district (6th/7th ave & the 20's) which was owned by W.Eugene Smith,
