Seymour Duncan Jazz 32nd Anniversary pickup matched set, W.D custom pickguard, Switchcraft jack, wires and 250 pots. The Guitar gets a nice jazzy tone when run clean at the neck and middle position, and also warms up to distortion well. Very versatile. Thinking about going to the Gotoh hardtail bridge. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Kent

If it comes with a stock hardtail what's the difference with a Gotoh?
The Gotoh hard tail bridge seems to have more mass than stock. More mass more tone. Just wondering if any one tried this bridge? Note the pick of my Telecaster in the group photos.

Yeah, from the photo the plate looks kind a thin. It should be 2 or 3mm in thickness for a good tone response.
Mass alone won't cut it. What is required is the right density.

I can't see the pic, so I'm not sure if this is
the 6-saddle bridge with string through body
(farrules in back). If so, the Gottoh saddles
will have a pronounced high frequency "zing" that
almost sounds like a sitar on some notes. This
drove me nuts until I simply swapped the saddles
for exact replacements from Graph Tech. Problem
solved. A friend with a late 80's hardtail Strat
with this six saddle bridge had the exact same
problem, and thought it was only his guitar.
And yes, in the case of the Gotoh steel saddles,
I did have someone look very carefully for burrs
or rough edges. Sometimes the zing - that's a
technical term haha - would happen on higher
notes up the B or E strings, or sometimes I would
bend a note and at some point during the bend,
the tone would thin out and become a treble ice pick to the ear.
Again, simply swapping the saddles for Graph
Techs did the trick. They probably make the
off-center non-string through body variety as well.
If you're thinking about a nut replacement as
well, keep in mind that it will only change the
sound of open string notes! People talk about nut
changes as a huge improvement, but I fail to see
how this affects anything once you fret a note...
the nut is out of the picture at that point.
Another thought: If you have the three barrel
type saddle, where two strings sit on each saddle piece, check out:

I can't personally say I've tried their tele
bridges, but their Tuneomatic bridge and stoptail
replacement breathed new life into my
American-made SG! Expensive, but a definite
improvement and I think, if you've already spent
a grand or more on an electric, you should see what it is capable of.

Corrections: ferrules not farrules, and the Gottoh saddles are
brass, not steel, according to the Stewart Macdonald link.

P.S. I'm not against nut upgrades, I just think people make too big
a deal about them. and, I like Tusq, again from Graph Tech. Very
bright lively material!
I see they are now making picks from this material - dammit, more
picks to go in the drawer once I grab some to try. :) It never ends...
