Have a peaceful Christmas all!
Every year or two I try to write a fresh Christmas tune. This, the latest endeavor, is very loosely based on the feeling of We Three Kings.
It is a 12 bar blues in 15/16. (has extra 3 eighth notes, get it? ;-)
Also the up a half step-back a whole step kept me on a three note track.
I hope you enjoy The Truth About the Three Wise Men.
Jim

I really liked this one Jim. What's the instrument playing the lead? I
assume you're playing that too.

Thanks, Dave
Hope this Christmas morning finds you with no pain and a smiling face.
I thought your post on scales, modes and keys was simply superb and that you were writing from a very deep place. Being in such pain gave you far reaching insight, it seems. Wow! I have saved it and sent it around to folks I know who would get much from it. I would really like to know your thoughts on when the major/minor system was/is a complete self referencing entity. This is truly an intriguing concept and i don't believe I have read something as cogent as your presentation... Or even heard an idea like it.
The lead trumpet-like sound is made from 3 synth modules. The basic patch is called "muted tpt" from a Yamaha MU50. I blended in a brass patch from a Kurzweil micro piano and and added a touch of "xtasy" from a Oberheim matrix. I played it on a Kurzweil PC88. This is a great instrument that makes music so naturally and is relatively easy to learn. I gave a good friend a nice deal and traded an American Standard telecaster for it. ;-) All you have to do is arm tracks in Digital Performer and the PC88 will play that armed module. The PC 88 wants to be a master controller. I recorded the basic part using a piano sound from the PC88 which part i edited after hearing the muted trumpet. I had forgotten how nice it is to record to midi.
A word to those who might still be listening. I have 7 modules that work fine. None cost much at all and each one has a few signature sounds that are definitely worth 50 bucks a module. My stuff is generally 1985 to 1990 vintage. As i say there are fine instruments out there that have fallen by the wayside which still sound good.
