But, I've now combined two software products in a way which makes it a
good deal easier.
I just got Sibelius G7 and started using it with the Amazing Slow
Downer.
I paid full price for both. There are other programs which will do the
same things, perhaps better.
Anyway, I set up two windows on screen. In one, the passage plays as
slow as necessary.
In the other, I'm typing notes into G7. The thing that makes it easier
is that G7 plays the note as you work. So, you don't need to have an
instrument handy. You can hear the notes you're entering.
It's even possible to use the arrow key and play your transcription
along with the original file. You don't get the rhythms played
automatically this way, but you can tell if you've got the notes right.
That means you can transcribe anywhere, whether or not you have an
instrument. More importantly, whether or not you've got great ears.
And, when you're done, you've got a printable transcription.
