yes Arco does means bowed, an Arco bass however is a special modified acoustic bass that is played upright.

Traditionally, the term "arco" refers to string instrument lines
(violin, viola, cello, double bass) that are played with a bow.
You capitalized the word "ARCO", so maybe it's a brand
name, rather than a description??? Here in L.A., Arco is a
brand of gasoline...

Subject: [jazz_guitar] ARCO Bass
I have samples named ARCO Bass. And on Graham Dechter's liner notes
they refer to arco bass as if it means a bowed line. My arco bass
samples are not bowed so I'm confused.

Hey, ARCO is bow in italian. And as you know italian is THE language for music annotations (presto, allegro, andante, staccato, legato etc.etc.)

Thanks Juan. I guess the caps came from my sample name. But that's
what I wanted to know. But the sample people got it wrong. Those
samples are not bowed to the best of my knowledge. I haven't used
them in a long while.
