Hello all,

We are working on getting a start at the One Design Regatta at Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT.   The dates are June 1-2.   So far we have 4 boats from WLIS committed.   Would be good to get as many boats as possible! Free dockage for the weekend and the parties are great!  We have a 5t hoist if you want to come in by trailer.

The regatta information can be found here: http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=768

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Think you can beat a 92 classic boat- for-boat? ;-)

Ooh, J/92-J/92s smack-talk - I like it!

I think if the 92S had a good #1 (that is, a lighter and slightly fuller 108% jib - or whatever the max is) and a 93 s/m masthead kite (or more if PHRF won't ding you for it) and there was any wind, the 92 classic might have its hands full.

I would certainly put both designs in the same OD fleet.

In UK the J92S and J92 race head to head in championships.  They are pretty well matched, but in general the J92S seem to do better.  That maybe  due to the boats being a bit younger and better funded too!

Pound for pound, or Dollar for Dollar the old J92 offers great racing value

I'm up in Lake St Claire.  I would love to make the race but it's a bit of a haul for me down to CPYC, also this is close to the date for the Bayview One Design.  Have you considered coming up for that race?  Great race, great event overall.

The trip down is not so bad, but the trip back up the Detroit River with a 9HP universal when there is 10kts - 15kts on the nose can be a real challenge!

There have been remarks made by others on the boat like..'we have been in front of the Renaissance Center for the past two hours'...

I think it's up to us (participants) to decide. CPYC probably doesn't care, but we can confirm.

If allowed, you're up for it?

Thanks,
Todd

I don't see the race committee having a problem with it as long as all other j-92 owners agree we race level.    I have no problem with it, if he wins we just won't invite him again next year, ha.

I think  boats will be sailing with different sail configurations anyway, I have a 155% and 84sqm kite (next sail to be replaced and will go big).   Todd assume you will racing with the 145% and 93sqm Kite?      Not sure on the other boats.

I'll be sailing with a 145 genoa on a furler and 91 sqm kite.

all we have is a 100% 135% or 155% because you don't want us to use the 170% monster ;-)

So what did you do any further thinking about bringing the j92s to the Cedar Point regatta?   Seems we are all ok with it and it would be good to have another boat on the line.

Here’s the deal.  I’d be there but my yacht club’s dock is still under construction.  (As is every other dock on the Raritan Bay and south) There is no sailing here.. racing or otherwise.. until it’s built..  anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks minimum.  I’ve been asked to take a leadership role in getting this task accomplished, so I’m not comfortable heading to Long Island while there’s so much work to be done here.  But, you’ll probably see me in the fall.

We just finished a great weekend of J-92 one design racing,  What a blast!!!!   We had 5 boats racing.   A big thank you to Thin Man, Blue Angel, Risk and Vixen for coming to Cedar Point YC to race.    Hopefully Mike has a safe delivery back home on Vixen (16hrs!)

Congrats to Thin Man on the first and Blue Angel for the 2nd!!    Results can be seen here: http://www.yachtscoring.com/event_results_cumulative.cfm?eID=768
We had some good close racing with 1st, 2nd and 3rd only being decided in the final race.

I am looking forward to the next opportunity for one design racing.

My sister in law is getting married that weekend in Seattle.  I tried to two things...getting her to change the wedding date and I tried to get out of having to go.   Both failed miserably......

This year the regatta will be the weekend of May 31st and June 1st.    I will still coordinate our fleet with the club for the regatta if we can get enough boats.  If needed I can have my crew race my boat.

Ah Christian that sucks. I have the same problem the prior weekend. My sister is getting married and I miss the BI race for the first time in a while.

Hello all,

Registration is open for the CPYC One Design Regatta: http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=971

The club asked me how many J92s we intend to have and encouraged everyone to sign up as soon as possible.   We are expecting a big j70 fleet (club is capping i at 40) and its looking like they may be limiting the total number of classes to about 8 or 9.   We prefer to have quality racing over the total number of participating classes.

Unfortunately I am unable to race that weekend, willl be in Seattle for my Sister In Laws wedding.   I may have my crew race the boat that weekend.
