The Keep on Shadowfell la prima avventura conterrà le regole e i
personaggi con la possibilità di arrivare al 3' livello (anche se sono
già precostruiti anche gli avanzamenti di livello) resta un prodotto
interessante per chi non segue internet e vuole cmq delle regole
ridotte all'osso
animali e meno animal summoning

Monsters - Richard Baker on Orcus and Deity Slaying
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maaaybe. We haven't statted up a deity for fightin' just yet. The
toughest thing currently in the game is Orcus, who's around level 33
-- so he's a tough fight for level 30 characters. Of course, Orcus is
about the toughest demon, and there are other demon princes who sit in
the high 20's.
We've kicked around the idea that a greater god like Moradin could
handle Orcus, but couldn't handle Orcus and Demogorgon together.
Hence, the greater gods are cautious about picking fights with demons,
because you never know if Demogorgon and Grazzt are hiding just around
the corner, waiting to jump out and ambush you. That would suggest
that Moradin (or any greater god, really) is maybe something like
level 37 or 38. He's going to be out of the reach of even 30th-level
PCs. That's why I said that taking on a god might involve a whole
chain of epic quests to line things up just right--to find the weapon,
the place, and the time where you catch a Bane or Shar at their
weakest.
So, to sum up: Any high-epic party will likely do in an archdevil,
exarch, or demon prince somewhere in their last four or five levels of
adventuring, possibly even two or three if the DM sets up the
adventures that way. But taking out a greater power is probably
something you only do once, and even then, you only do it if the DM
decides to make it the theme of the last big adventure your characters
have as mortal heroes. It's hardly working your way through Deities &
Demigods in alphabetical order.

4E - Keep on the Shadowfell specifics from Mike Mearls (4e designer)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think anyone posted this yet. Quotes from WotC Mearls of the
design team regarding Keep on the Shadowfell, as well as my follow up
question:
"There will be leveling in the adventure, you just don't have options
as you go up. It isn't the best situation, but we had to work with the
page count of the adventure.
I'm not sure of the race/class breakdown. I co-wrote the adventure,
and then a second team created the characters and the fast play rules.
There are a few ways you can look at it:
1. If your group wants to play 4e but hasn't followed the boards or
still has a 3e game to wrap up, this is a fast, easy way to start
playing.
2. If you want to get a jump start on learning 4e before the core
rulebooks come out, the module is a good "first run" of the game. You
play KotS, learn the rules, get everyone up to speed, then start in on
the full game.
3. If you just want an adventure and don't care about the fast play
stuff, KotS goes from level 1 to 3. The quick start materials will be
handy as a reference for players who don't yet have a PH. If you want
the full options of the PH, you might want to wait for the PH or let
the players re-do their characters.
4. If you're not crazy about published modules and you can wait for
the PH, KotS isn't for you.
So, basically, how much do you want an adventure, and how long can you
wait to see the 4e rules? Those two questions determine if H1 is going
to make you happy."
My questions:
While you're here Mr. Mearls,
I've already pre-bought the KotSF and the corebooks (with skeptical
optimism). I also was at DDXP (love the eladrin ranger).
Can you tell us about any pregen character in KotSF? I want to know if
I can use that source and the pregen DDXP characters (despite their
draft status), as well as some of the great resources EN World has put
together to actually start my 4e campaign early. I want to give the
players a full range of options, and with the DDXP pregen characters,
and the warlord and rogue Dragon articles, I feel like I'm nearly
there.
Will KotSF complete the circle, or should I wait another month before
trying to start an intensive new campaign (with a cool POL setting in
the works?)

Minis - DoD Preview 9...
http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mi/20080327a
mostly stale, w/ one nugget
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Preview 9 is up: Ice Archon and Iron Defender.
Nothing you haven't already seen if you've seen mini pics from DDXP.
However, it does mention that there are only two elemental archons in
the MM: fire and ice. So we'll have to wait a bit for earth, air, and
water archons.
I'm not upset about the decision to parcel out like monsters (giants,
archons, possibly dragons, etc) but at some point it would be nice to
have them all in one location.
I'd like to avoid: 'Crap, which MM is the air archon in?'

General - 4E Druid info from Dave Noonan
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to TerraDave for the information that Dave Noonan has posted
some information on the 4E druid in his blog.
http://www.gleemax.com/Comms/Pages/Communities/BlogPost.aspx?blogpostid=52842&pagemode=2&blogid=2132
So what's the druid look like right now? Some tidbits:
* Call his role "hybrid." But don't assume that he can cover all
roles. Just a couple of 'em.
* If you like what the 3.5 Player's Handbook II did to the 3.5 druid,
then you'll probably like this guy, too.
* He doesn't do much with the classical Greek elements (air/fire/earth/
wat er), but he's got a lot of weather-related magic. Again, that's
the direction we were taking the class in latter-day 3.5 products.
* Not a lot of animal summoning. Plenty of wild shape.
And what's in my druid file? The class description, of course, and all
the powers (eighty of 'em at this point, give or take). Plus there are
some druid (and druid-friendly) feats, four paragon paths, an epic
destiny (available to those who aren't druids, too), and some rituals.
Oh, and some druid-friendly magic items.
In other words, he's ready for playtesting.
