Leggo con tristezza della scomparsa del violoncellista Boris Pergamenschikov.
"Boris Pergamenschikov has passed away. He was born in Leningrad in 1948. He studied cello with Emmanuel Fischmann and composition at the Leningrad Conservatory. He won many first prizes at national and international competitions, such as the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Prague Spring Competition. From 1970, Boris Pergamenschikow gave concerts in the most important concert halls of the former USSR and other Eastern bloc countries. After his emigration in 1977, he took on a position as tutor at the Academy of Music in Cologne, and intensified his concert activities. Guest performances at international festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and the Berlin and Vienna Festivals followed, as well as performances with renowned international orchestras. Boris Pergamenschikow has worked with Claudio Abbado, Henri Dutilleux, Gidon Kremer, Witold Lutoslawski, Yehudi Menuhin, Krysztof Penderecki, Mstislav Rostropovich, András Schiff, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Sandor Végh and with the Amadeus and Alban Berg quartets. Since 1980, Boris Pergamenschikow has given masterclasses in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Britain, Argentina and Japan. From1980-94 he was professor of cello at the Cologne Academy of Music. In 1987/88 he also held a professorship at the Musikakademie in Basle. In 1991 he founded the European Chamber Music Association to promote musical dialogue between young artists from East and West. From 1990-95 he organised the FINALE chamber music festival in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. In 1994 he renounced his full-time teaching position and took on a part-time post as tutor instead. In 1998, Boris Pergamenschikow was appointed Professor of Cello at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin."

Mi dispiace moltissimo, probabilmente stava male in quest'ultimo periodo e questo spiegherebbe l'annullamento della sua esecuzione del concerto di Schumann a Milano qualche settimana fa. Ho ascoltato diverse volte Pergamenschikov dal vivo,e sempre si è distinto per la gentilezza con cui trattava il pubblico che lo andava a salutare in camerino. L'ultima volta che l'ho incontrato,all'auditorium di Largo Mahler a Milano nel 2002, mi ha addirittura fatto fotocopiare le parti di una trascrizione di Piatigorsky che non riuscivo a reperire sul mercato congedandosi così: "..and now go home to study,it's difficult". Addio,maestro Boris.

Years ago I tried to study with him in Cologne, and of all the teachers, he actually wrote back to me with a post card saying he was going to be on sabattical. While we never met, I was touched that he took out the time to write to me- most professors woudln't even bother to reply.
