Hi,

can someone who successfully imported ssh keys please post a small
howto? I got stuck on several ways to import the key.

Here's what I did so far:
I tried to import my RSA key (created with openssh), but got an error
message "Unable to process cilpboard contents". I investigated a
little and found the key generated with iSSH doesn't have the
following 2 lines, which my key has:
---- snip ---------
Proc-Type: 4,ENCRYPTED
DEK-Info: DES-EDE3-CBC,<some hex stuff removed>
---- snip ---------

After removing those lines and import via clipboard again I get "Wrong
password" immediately after hitting "Import Private Key" without even
being asked for a password.

I also generated a key with iSSH and tried to import with and without
deleting it prior to import - also no success.

Thanks in advance for any hint,

Katja

iSSH should import encrypted keys.

The following is a sample private key I generated to test the key
behavior. The password is "password" (without the quotes) and when I
imported it I did notice a small bug (the "email public key" and
"Export private key" options don't immediately appear)

Let me know if this test key works for you.

Thanks for the quick response. But I had no success. With this key I
get a popup "Unable to process clipboard contents". I even tried to
remove those two lines, I mentioned in the original post, but got the
same error "Unable to process ...".

I'll try to remove and re-install the app (even though I might loose
all the settings) and post the results.

Maybe it helps, the device in question is:
* an ipod touch model MB533FD,
* _no_ jailbreak
* OS 3.1.2 (7D11)

The clipboard should contain everything from the "----BEGIN" to the
"-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----"

I did notice that it gave me a little flak when I tried cutting and
pasting from the web. Copying it from an email posed not problems,
however.

I've removed the app, installed it again and tried again with both
keys (your sample key and my own) - as always with the "----BEGIN"
and "-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----" lines. All without success. I
went on without the last EOL (clipboard content ends after last dash)
and got the same error message as before. This is driving me nuts.

Are there special EOL codes required or is a plain unix LF sufficient?

What source are you copying the key from? As mentioned before, Safari
actually messes with the pasteboard contents to some degree.

Hi,

I tried multiple sources with both keys (your sample and my own) -
from a file uploaded to "Files lite", from a synced note and from a
mail.

Funny thing is: I can generate a key on the device, export it, paste
it into a note, select all from the note, and then copy, delete it
from iSSH and paste it back into iSSH - this works.

Anyway, I give up at this point and use the key generated on the
device. Just wrote script to update the .ssh/authorized_keys on the
hosts.

Thanks a lot for your patience and help,

Katja

Thanks for sticking with this to try to make it work. In the next
version I will make the process more straightforward and complete the
documentation. The private key import stuff was somewhat of an
afterthought I admit it shows. Again, I apologize for your struggles
in this regard and I hope to make your experience a better one in an
upcoming version.
