I am using "ruby script/plugin install git://github.com/galetahub/rails-ckeditor.git",
on windows 7. which creates rails-ckeditor folder on vendor/plugin but
does not install any file in it.

Does someone know why?

you probably don't have git installed / installed properly

This mean you dont have "git" command in your Windows 7

type "git --version" if this return "no command or file name" this
mean you dont have git, then install git.
use "tortoise git" this is best option for windows.i think it also
gives you path to git executables.

tortoise doesn't. it has 'tgit'.
best to use official git dist. for windows.

So I installed MSysGit. When I run it I get a console window with
"welcome to msysGit".
Then I run the rails console (get another console window) and run
"ruby script/plugin install git://...." still nothing is being
installed in the vendor/plugin/....

What shall I do?

your description is very vague.
git on windows have improved tremendously, i've installed it on xp, server 2k8, 2k3 and 7.
see if you can just run 'git' on a command line.

I will try to explain my self better:

  • When I run msysGit I get a cmd window with a $ prefix. In this window when I write "git" I get an explanation on git's commands.
  • When I run a regular cmd.exe window and write "git" I get an error "git is not recognize as...a command"
  • When I run the rails console window and write "ruby script/plugin install git://...." nothing is being installed

you should have selected it to integrate with your windows (i think it was 3rd radio button) in installation.
you can try and amending it by adding Git to your environment PATH

Dotan,

I have added msysgit to the path. Now "Git" is known also on rails console. However when I run the "ruby script/plugin install..." I get an error saying "fatal: unable to connect a socket (no error)".

Do you know what shall I do?

As the OP mentioned being on Windows, this is my guess as well.
Unless you already do, you should have Cygwin or msysgit installed and
make sure you install all the relevant packages for git to work
correctly.
