Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) has decided to do a temporary price rollback whenever lab capacity allows them to do so.  When demand at the lab is low, the prices will go down. With this system in place, prices may go up on different tests at any time based on lab volume.  So right now, the Full Mitochondrial Sequence (FMS) test is $199, Family is $199, and a combination of Y-DNA 37 + FMS is $368.  Checking the FTDNA page (www.ftdna.com; your surname will be: Azores or Madeira to get into the group) is important to get the best prices!!

FTDNA was able to discount the basic Y-DNA 12 marker test to $49 a couple of months ago.  They were working on a way to offer the basic mtDNA test at $49.  Instead, they figured out how to offer the mtDNA Plus (both HVR1 and HVR2) at $49. Therefore, they're discontinuing the HVR1-only test. The basic mtDNA test will now be the mtDNAPlus (HVR1+2) at the $49 price point!
