I'm probably being dense because I'm new to Islandora and solr, but Solr is not working at all for me on the Virtual Machine (11.3).

I imported the VM into Virtual Box and got the VM up & running.

I enabled the search blocks "Islandora Solr Simple Search" and "Islandora Solr Advanced Search" but I consistently get 0 results back for the queries "test" or "fishing" (both of which I believe should be there).

I've fiddled with various options on the "Islandora Solr Client" in Drupal Admin to no effect (It reports that it's connected to solr successfully).  All of the options are set as per the manual

Going to <IP>:8080/solr/admin gets me a working solr admin page but the "Make a Query" doesn't return any results either.

What should I be doing that I'm not doing?

Thanks in anticipation...

Hi Michael,

I tested the Solr basic and advanced search in the VM and it seems to
be working. Did you add content with "test" and "fishing" in the
titles? I ask because none of the content included with the VM has
either of those terms in the title.

There are several demo objects included in the VM - there should be
one item in each demo collection. Have you tried searching for any of
these items? I get results back when I search for them.

Solr has been pre-configured on the VM so you shouldn't need to modify
any settings to get it working.

Hi Michael,

The simple search is configured in a text file on the filesystem. If you go to http://192.168.56.195/admin/settings/islandora_solr_search, you will see a Dropdown menu called "Request Handler." Depending on which version of the VM you have, you may have a long list with lots of options or a shorter one (which I cleaned up) with only a couple of options... Choose either "demo" or "islandora" from the list of request handlers and click "Save" at the bottom of the page and try a search for "PEI" You should get a result, if you have not removed the default objects that I included in the repo.

FYI, the file where the request handlers are defined is: /usr/local/fedora/gsearch_solr/solr/conf/solrconfig.xml (thanks Alan for pointing me to it when I was having trouble with the simple search :-)

Cheers,
Gervais

One reason that was in 11.2 and could have been in VM 11.3: in VM out
of the box no Default Display Profile is selected. Go to Islandora
Solr Client to select it.

The reason I was looking for test and fishing was because I had seen
both of these terms in the Solr statistics (http://192.168.56.195:8080/
solr/admin/schema.jsp - looking at Title) when I was trying to find
something to generate results. Looking back at this it seems like
I've re-indexed Solr and those terms have disappeared.

I'm running the Islandora-v11.3_ubuntu_32bit_vm_v1. There's a number
of options for request handler. I was using standard (which is the
default) and it seemed sensible to use that. I haven't knowingly
deleted any documents but when I did the PEI search I got no results.

Returning to the Solr Schema Browser I saw "australia" indexed which
meant that the one PDF I ingested was probably there so I searched for
australia and the PDF appeared - so that's using the "demo" handler.
Standard still fails to find my PDF or PEI.

It looks like I'm running now so I'll ingest some more content and
start playing. Expect more dumb questions :)

Hi Serhiy,

I saw your post and toggled the default display profile to make sure
it wasn't still an issue, but it seems to be fixed.

It looks like changing the request handler is the thing that got
search working for me. Thanks all for your help.
