ireg file creation date

When using ireg,

is there option to include the true file date in the meta data
creation date when the file is registered into the system?

At this time it uses the current date which is the date when ireg is
executed and not the date that is associated with the file from the
file system.

I assume one could write a micro service but as end user I was hoping
to have a software switch in ireg.

At the recent (last week's) iRODS user group, I described some
functionality I added to iRODS which includes capturing UNIX file
meta-data and keeping it in iCAT. This information is captured
automatically by iput/ireg/irsync. The code has not been integrated
into SVN yet, but will hopefully show up in a 3.2 release timeframe.
