I am going to be interviewed by the BBC tomorrow evening about
reactions to the news today (if you have not heard - Saddam will be
executed today or tommorrow for sure)

Anyone want to contribute a comment that they want the British public
to hear?

I know I'm gonna be labeled a Baathist, but I'm still against the death sentence whether against Saddam or any other person. If I had the chance to decide his fate, I'd let him locked in cramped cell, and work hard on making Iraq a better place, then I'd give him a telly to watch and weep. I mean the fact that he's been deprived of authority is enough a torture.

By the way, I thought that he's gonna stand trial for charges related to the mass killing if Jameela businessmen and other pending charges, what about them?

an expected outcome.

i dont think any iraqi at the moment will benefit or lose if they executed Saddam, the killing fields of iraq will still be open for business, even if one of their patrons was offed -which people say will be in the next three hours-

thing is, the ONLY thing i hope to come out of this whole fiasco, is a lesson.
a lesson to our current "Saddams".

history only repeats itself because we fail to learn from our mistakes.

happy eid everyone, its 2am my time, 3am baghdad time..
God have mercy on us all.

on a seperate note:
Ms.Tita, i am not a violent person, everyone around me knows that (i guess),
but i am a firm supporter of the death penalty, actually, any "eye for an eye" kind of punishment.
and for everyone, from kings to beggars.

believe me, less crimes would be committed if the crims knew there was a heavy toll to be paid.

its still painful that its 7aq yorad bihi ba6il. all this trial. as much as i hate saddam, i know he is far better than the one judgin him and excecuting him.
its just sad.

In the late 70s, Saddam showed Iraqis footage of gallows as a premonition for the bloodbaths to come. But today's politicians claim that the ousted regime will never be repeated, so how come they have insisted on airing the hanging in the Eid.

So true 13, we never learn from others' mistakes. Are we really natural-born maniacs?

As for the death penalty. I think it would sound nice if Saddam was executed while he was in power. Solagh admitted to torturing dozens of detainees, what did the democratic governement do to him, they made him the minister of finance to pierce money instead of human flesh.

And Khwelid,

Ayamkum Sa3eeda all and I hope this coming year is the one we are all
waiting for.

The best quote here is Khalid's" kalam Haq yurad bihi Batil"
Everything about the execution is wrong but the execution itself is
very right and justified. And I agree with tita on capital punishment
but not when it comes to genocide.
the only thing i cannot understand is why some people are treating this
matter as if they have a big chip on their shoulder?
Like Shia excuted him, or his death is a blow to the Sunnis. or his
death has turned him to a martyr.
It is a chapter we have to close rather than giving it too much
thought. We have to move on and give more thought to the precious
people we are loosing everyday. He is a piece of dirt and his death is
a relief to whoever suffered under his reign.

Wallah ma adree ya Hala, regardless of he he is and what he did, I didn't like the thought of airing the process. It was not a matter of justice, had it been so, they should have waited for the pending cases, Anfal is not over yet, the merchants' case hasn't started. And from the video aired today, I realized it has more to do with revenge and score settling. Why did those masked men have to chant Moqtada's name, what has that thug got to do with it, is he any better, hasn't he perpetrated similar crimes against fellow Iraqis, who by the way are not necessarily Sunnis.
I'm afraid now that Saddam is a dead man I will no longer be able to crack jokes about him or call him Skham as I used to do. If he emitomized a closure of a bloody chapter, let's start a clean one at least.

Hello Hala!
and a happy new year to you too!

hmm.. about the chip-on-shoulder thing:

1. "Like, Shia excuted him"
hmmm... simple to reason that one out: he was executed for the Dijel massacre, also the chants at his execution..

2. "or his death is a blow to the Sunnis"
thats just "we came to liberate you from the Sunni overlords" crap, in a different guise..

3. "his death has turned him to a martyr"
hmm.. the way he was executed, first day of eid and all, also, the git was composed before the ropes.. also, some people are just mindless, and want a god of flesh to worship.

oh and we iraqis always blow everything out of proportion! if you think this is outrageous, just wait for the "next generation" born to Ba'athi parents are old enough for their parents to tell them how Saddam lived and died. oh i can just imagine!

ugh.

As always, you are missing the point. First what I am about to say is
not about loving or hating saddam, this is about justice. And justice
is not done.
You might wonder, but this is a brutal dictator… yes he was, but they
made him a martyr. The people who executed him made him a martyr. They
are so filled with hate that they even denied him what was obvious,,
that he even when facing death he showed no sign of fear. I'd like to
see hakim or maliki, or robai3i, or hashimi facing the hangman. We, as
usual, don't see further than our noses. This is not over yet, it has
just started, they didn’t think of the outcome of what they have
done. They are so filled with hate. Maybe you would say.. but they have
all the right to feel like that. Maybe, but when you are trying to
build a nation you have to make sacrifices, saddam was more useful
alive than dead. I agree with chikita saying that we should have built
the country and made into heaven and make die of envy.
They made it all about shia and sunnis too, they excuted him of eid's
eve, but when asked why maliki replied, our eid starts Sunday. In the
video the executioners were chanting moqtada.. moqtada. What proof you
want more?

beats me.
now this, a mood breaker, and a 2 min break from serious discussion:

A Frenchman, an Englishmanand a New Yorker were exploring the jungle and were captured by a fierce tribe. As they sit in a hut, awaiting their fate, the chief comes to them and says,"The bad news is that now that we've caught you, we're going to kill you, and then use your skins to build a canoe. The good news is that you get to choose how you die."

The Frenchman says, "I take ze poison." The chief gives him some poison, the Frenchman says, "Vive la France!" and drinks it down.

The Englishman says,"A pistol for me, please." The chief gives him a pistol, he points it at his head, says, "God save the queen!" and blows his brains out.

The New Yorker says,"Gimme a fork." The chief is puzzled, but he shrugs and gives him a fork. The New Yorker takes the fork and starts jabbing himself all over -- the stomach, the sides, the chest, everywhere.

There's blood gushing out all over, it's horrible. The chief is appalled, and screams, "What are you doing?"

The New Yorker looks at thechief and says, "So much for your canoe, asshole!"

:)

please feel free to continue, all!

sorry bout that, but i felt some light spirits were needed.

seems we're all of the same opinion, yet we've all found our own way to say it.

Sam, i agree with you, and with everyone else on this. strange to see iraqis actually agreeing to something, right?
that's the second time i know this happened, after Um Kalthoum.

like i said at zeyad's, i dont know if this is the end, or the beginning, or maybe both.

This situation is temporary. Bottom line is that as long as the
Americans are pulling the strings in the Iraqi government you will have
these savages in power. No one else will align themselves with America.
I know many decent Iraqis but none will involve themselves with an
occupation government. But these savages are cowards, and can only stay
in power with half the American army to back them up. Point is what
will replace them when America goes - and they are going.

I believe in Iraq they say it is like the marriage of the wild dogs.
One night they are keeping everyone awake with their howling, the next
night they are gone.

Miraj is 100% correct too...Most Iraqis are good people, but they don't
do anything, they just sit around waiting to get killed... RIP.

You're gonna have to get used to the fact that from now on you'll be
countryless people...living like beggars on other countries
doorsteps...have many Palestinan pals as you can, come to think of it,
i don't blame Palestinians when they love Saddam like hell....

you're gonna love it as a nomad.
